I predict when the department that handles all the accounts re-opens on  January 2nd they are going to be awash  with request payments and your first payment for the new year will be late.
Last day payments requests should be in by the 16 th december for this year. Now if istock don't shut down this facility over the festive holidays i expect a backlog of request payments by contributors not aware of the festive holidays and keep requesting payment EVERY day throughout the holidays.

You may be right Shank.

OTOH, last year they did the same thing - shut off payments during the latter part of december for the holiday - and there was no slowdown of payments when they resumed in January.

I'm gonna try and be optimistic on this one :)

No, shank is wrong. Here's the stated IS policy:

While you're busy celebrating the holiday season this December, our accounting department will be doing the same. This means that you will be unable to make payment requests between 9 a.m. MST December 16, 2008 and 8:59 MST January 2, 2009.

... make sure to get your payment requests in before 9am MST on the 16th!

What part of shanki's statement is wrong?

Don't the new payment request policies go into effect in January? That should keep the backlog down.

I think your talking about istockphoto only allowing contributors one payment request a week which commences 2 nd January 2009.

The part where he postulates that people will be making (daily) payment requests after the deadline. IS is disabling this part of the site until 8:59am on the 2nd); no payment requests can be made after the deadline, which means there won't be a backlog. Sure, there may be an abnormal number of payment requests made on the 2nd and days following, but not a backlog.

Don't forget to request your payouts... tomorrow morning is the deadline.

I went ahead and did mine just now because no doubt I will forget tomorrow morning.

If you don't make enough to be able to request a payout yourself, why are you worried by any of this?  ;)

I did the same - easier than figuring out how MST differs from EST anyway ;)

I requested a payout on the 12th... does that mean I won't be paid until Jan 2 - ?  or are they processing normally up to the 16th?

Thanks
P

You will be payed this year.
What istock are saying is ...your last request this year for payment from your account should be requested/support ticket by the 16 th and istock will hopely settle before the xmas holidays.
I was wondering if istock turn off this function after the 16 th december and switch it back on in the new year( 2nd january). If they do not and allow us greedy money grabbing budding artists and desporados to create  support tickets throughout the festive period then i suspect they will be a backlog for the staff on the 2nd.which will slow down the first payments in the new year....Over and Out

So let's play your game. Say 1/4 of all the IS contributors were eligible for a payout by the 16th of Dec. I would think that all of those would have submitted in order to get their pay before the end of year. Now you have to figure that another 1/4 are still to new to the site to get any kind of steady payment at all so they won't be asking for anything on the 16th or the 2nd. So that leaves 1/2 of the overall contributors who *may* qualify to request a payment.

I think they planned it out on purpose. Just like they did every other year. And since the new system goes into effect the week following the holiday I can't see there being a real issue here.

I put a payment request in yesterday and received payment today. That has NEVER happened for me before at istock! As the cheerleaders would say.....wooyay!

I immediately transferred the same amount of money to my savings account.  :)

I can well understand contributors who reach $100 after the 16 th and can't request payment.$100 in some poor countries of the world must seem like a small fortune.
I think istock will need to make the system fully automated in the future and pay it's contributors 365 days a year.

Why? Most companies pay on a set basis. Once a week, Every other week, once a month. I don't think most contributors make enough to demand a check once a week. Those that do will be able to reliably know when their payment should come. The rest will be glad that we're know the schedule and can plan for things rather than request a payment and try to guess as to when the money will get to us.

In countries where the $ 100 is small fortune, be sure that they can not afford themselves  SLR camera  and other equipment for microstock.
Perhaps there, happiness is not limited only to dollars like in some coutries...
