Title: Do Cannisters Even Matter Anymore?
Post by: jsmithzz on January 05, 2011, 21:51
With the new royalty system, is there even any point to having cannisters anymore?

Oh yes, they promised us they would be grandfathered in. Don't you feel happy now?

As far as I can tell they only control the number of upload slots you have (and maybe when you can go exclusive whey you are just starting out if you want to go that route)

Also determines number of monthly Vetta slots.

They're largely a historical artifact at this point - a remnant of a community that no longer exists in the same form.

Given that anything prior to the previous year's sales is irrelevant to IS, I'd think they'd do better to assign upload slots (Vetta nominations or any other quota item) on the same basis. Or they could do it by approval percentage.

Canisters are there as time capsules, left for future Archeologist to discover. They will see a time when Istock shot each contributor in the foot and said "Sorry about that. Follow us but no promises we wont do it again."   ::)

they are pretty. Real ones can store rice or pasta. Real ones are normally plastic not gold - bit like IS policies.

Yes. They determine how many upload slots you have. That may be irrelevant to most exclusives, who have loads of slots, but independents don't get many, not even diamond independents.
