Title: Dollar bin - any one ever been in it
Post by: CJPhoto on February 16, 2007, 08:24
Was just browsing the dollar bin.  Some good shots in there - even some flames. I thought it was because they were small sizes but no, thats not it.

I cant figure out why they are throwing them out.  Does it cost them much to leave them in?  I could understand if they were getting rid of zero sales and small photos but Large sized flames?

Has anybody ever been in the dollar bin?

I think it's about numbers. By selling big size images cheaper, they sell more. More downloads --> go higher stage faster (bronze, gold...) --> more pourcentage for exclusives and less upload limits.  And more traffic to the portfolio.

jacus - the photos are put into the Dollar Bin by istock, not the photag.  If they dont get enough sales with a month period, the are deleted for good.  Definately not in the best interests of the photag to have a flame deleted I would have though.

wow, I didn't know there was flame images in there.  None the less, they may have been replaced by much better images and haven't received a sale in the last quite a while.  I have a couple images in the dollar bin (or perhaps they are kicked out now :))

I am guessing it wouldn't cost istock anything to have the images online, but it may drive away sales having buyings have to sort through poor picture or useless pictures.

If I remember it right, images that had not been selling for over an year and were technically not up to the standards today would be sent to the dollar bin.  So probably this one sold well in the past but not in the last twelve months.

It probably hasn't sold since they changed the Best Match algorithm...  :o

Maybe they turned into a flames from sales generated in the dollar bin?
