Many exclusives drop crowns. Financially first months of independence will be difficult.
Actually I'm still exclusive at IS but I'm not buying anymore there. I have subscription at Shutterstock now and I'm not using all my quota. I propose to download images from freshly independents. It's not a big help but I think it's better then nothing.
If you are interested pls put link to your SS portfolio here- ONLY EX-EXCLUSIVES.

I'm pretty sure SS would have issues with this. Seems like a good way to get some accounts suspended.

Helix is right, you definitely need to get shutterstock's agreement before doing this.

Your heart is in a lovely place, but I think this sort of action is likely to fall foul of the terms both for contributor and you. Post back here if you get SS's OK, but otherwise I'd not recommend taking you up on the kind offer.

Wow! IS Exclusives still getting special treatment even as independents on SS. Now, I've seen everything.  ;D

Thanks Jsnover.
Probably you are right guys, it can be dangerous for contributors to post theirs links here. But for me (buyer) I cannot see any problem. Very often I download many pics from the same portfolio-it's easier, faster and I have consistent choice of images (the reason why people buy subscriptions, isn't it?).
I will wait for Aldra and Sodafish, they have a lot of nice pics;-).
BTW is Sjlocke already at SS?

Unless you know something I don't, Sean is still exclusive :)

And if he goes I'll give him 50% cashback if I get to refer him.

50% is unsustainable, I'll give him 80  ;D

He is one of the last who will leave IS. Most probably, it will never happen.
Even if he is angry on a lot of thinks about the development of IS he is still devoted to it.

Yeah, he will be playing that violin as the ship sinks around him  ;D

Rene, I am always delighted to sell my work and if you have use for it for an upcoming project then nothing would make me happier than to sell to you through Shutterstock.  Please feel free to check out my portfolio there, but as the others have said - no favours please.

Many thanks,
Bridget (StockCube)

I can't see how an agency can tell a buyer who to buy from. It's absurd! If you feel like buying a whole port, than that's just your choice and there's nothing they can do about it. They can just close a contributor's account, but I don't think they'll do it with a buyers, unless he'd constantly use all the quota on just a few ports and actually making them loose money. But I guess rene is smarter than that, he'll mix it up and won't use all of the quota every day, especially not on weekends and during the holidays

BTW on the other hand this could all be just a trick, SS could just ban all of us who recommend our ports for him to buy from (wether it's in the forums or via PM). I'm sure not jeopardising the closure of my account for some minuscule chance of getting a few extra $. A few extra $ mean nothing to me anyway (since SS sales are so good anyway).

But it sure would be nice if we found a nice, safe way to game the system on all of the agencies. They're doing it do us since day 1 and are just tightening the belt (not SS)

Actions like this will only result in agencies retaliating in some way.

I'm sorry, but I still think this thread is complete garbage and fairly insulting. Hey, I deleted all 2000+ images that I had at IS as a non-exclusive. Maybe, I deserve a pity party too.  ???

Seriously, please just buy people's work because of its merits not because of some loyalty to some place you used to shop. Go find all the great artists and unique things that SS has to offer. Maybe, some of those things were on IS exclusively at one time. Maybe, they've never been on IS. Regardless, you're buying it from some hardworking artist.

Besides, if you really want to help any contributor out, then why not buy from them directly and give them 100% profit? Now, that seems like a worthwhile cause.

I wonder why buyers don't do that more often? Sure, big companies can't just pay you via MB (or can they?), but there are so many small designers, that could just contact you and especially when it comes to credit purchases at IS from non-exclusives, everyone would gladly part with their image for half the price.

I've always been hesitant to handle the licensing on my own.  I think we can transfer funds (invoice and pay out) via PayPal.  It's the legalese that frightens me.

If they consider you are "gaming the system" you and your associates can get thrown out. Remember, it's their business and they can ban anyone they like.

You could, for example, buy an SS subscription and by downloading all your files get paid back more than you paid out. Or you could boost your search ranking or your friends' by buying stuff purely to gain a search advantage. Istock has banned people for that in the past.

It's neither ridiculous nor unreasonable.

I hope that Ex-exclusives don't bring this kind of elitISm with them to other agencies.

Please stay exclusives and don't dISturb other agencies.

I have to agree with Jo Ann - I think your heart is in the right place but probably not the best method.  I think just shopping and supporting a site that treats contributors fairly in itself helps to promote everyone's work.
