Can someone enlighten me on the reason that Istockphoto introduced this extra price tier.
Cock Up 1- "We are sorry your file did not make it into our sexy Vetta collection but we hope it screws some more money out of the buyers by entering the Exclusive + collection"
Cock Up 2 - "We have decided that you the talented artist are best at managing your own portfolios and can nominate a % quota of your portfolio to add to this new collection "
Cock Up 3- "Non exclusives are now allowed to screw more money from the buyers by nominating files for the exclusive +
collection "
Just scrap the collection. It stinks !!!!

Maybe you should take your issues up in IS forums instead.

Maybe you should take your issues up in IS forums instead.
Theres a novel idea....
I just think the collection does not work and buyers already pay enough for exclusive content on the site.
I would like to see the company admit the collection does not work and scrap it by the end of 2011.Simple really.

Shank meet Stacey, Stacey meet Shank, a perfect couple, hope you have a nice life together.

FYI.I have met Stacey earlier this year.I enjoyed her company and watching her work.
Your remark was not offensive to me but i enjoy being exclusive on Istock and i no others share the same commitment.

What evidence do you have that the collection is not working? My own experience is that it is performing quite well.

I did not mean it to be offensive, I think you share alot of the same qualities, and would make a good couple. Did you get her #?

I'm not being funny, but were you able to foresee the commission cuts? I personally couldn't foresee that commissions could get any lower, but just curious if you did.
-
shank you are married to Istock aren't you? Are you getting a divorce ar just bitching about your married life?

Oh you'd like to be screwed by Lobo for real as well, virtually just doesn't cut it for ya, now does it;)

If you don't feel that your images are worth the premium, don't label them as E+.
In my case, I have some groups of 'similar-ish' pics some E+ some not, and the E+ pics always outsell the not, sometimes by a long way. I'm sure if the buyers were feeling 'screwed' they'd buy the 'non's.
You can't possibly speak for all buyers, though you are a master of the 'sweeping statement'. There will always be buyers, of any product, who want to screw the producers for as much as possible and complain loudly about prices.
-
So, shank, you failed to remember the past (think back 18 months, to when E+ was introduced to remember why it was introduced), you failed to understand the present (go and learn the difference between E+ and P+), and you avoid the question about whether you foresaw the future with its commission cuts in your crystal ball.
Not a very impressive track record, is it?
I'd put you on ignore if you weren't so amusing (and I've never ignored anyone yet).
-
I love P+ and I'd love to sell even more at E+, since I'm sure I have at least a few photos buyers wouldn't mind paying more for.
But we'll probably get non-excl Vetta soon enough anyway. Perhaps only the P+/E+ and V/A will stay at as and the rest will get dumped to the PP sites. Which would be fine by me, I would mind selling my photos at a midstock agency ;)
-
But we'll probably get non-excl Vetta soon enough anyway.
Yup, quite likely. Just watch out for 10% commission on the deal, or less.
-

U're probably right, I didn't think of that :D . OK then my future is going to be the PP sites, what does your chrystal ball says wankster, I mean shankster? ;)

The only screwing I'm certain of is the lose one in your head.

Hi Shank - when are you off to India then? Looking forward to seing your images.
As for E+, if I check my latest downloads page I see 12 out of the last 20 were E+, and that's with only 10% of my port selected for the collection. Works for me.
I think buyers are plenty smart enough to decide for themselves if the extra cost is worth it, and they are.
I also think contributors are plenty smart enough to decide for themselves if an image is worthy of being offered at a higher price, and I thank iStock for giving us the opportunity to do so - it's one decision I do agree with, wholeheartedly.

India is on hold until i see if my name is picked for the Milan Lypse.
If contributors are so smart,in selecting files, why do you often read about them complaining about the 6 month period to switch.Or my files stopped selling when entering exclusive +
I do not have any files in exclusive + or ever will !
-

Grief, Shankie -
India vs MilanLypse. That's a no-brainer, though you seem to have made the 'odd' choice.
-

Never say never.
However, what you are saying loud and clear is that you think none of your photos are worth E+ prices, but you're happy for buyers - in big commerical companies - to be able to aquire large copies of your images for peanuts at Thinkstock.
You need to place more value on your time, equipment and skills.
Your call, of course, but remember there's room for a diversity of views.
-
IS need another collection like the exclusive ++ for your crème de la crème pictures eheh
now for real I don´t know why you keep exclusive with a agency that kicked you out of the forum :P

I can't defend Shank's posts here (sorry Shank), but he has a heart of gold so I'll take your comment as a compliment even though it was meant as an unprovoked kindergarten insult. maybe you should spend your time more wisely improving your 'snappy' stock rather than going out of your way to insult members of a community you don't even belong to.

My answer to today's "Random Shank IMO" post. If any increase is "screwing more money out of the buyers", maybe you should just go put your stuff on a free site somewhere.

Nice to see lots of posative comments about the exclusive + collection.Hope contributors are still adding all the same keywords to a series and picking maybe one/two for exclusive+.Looks very professional to a buyer when they show up in there search !

I do not have any files in exclusive + or ever will !
You'll get that yacht alot quicker if you opt in with the E+ bunch... ;)

I do have some unique work that would sell in the exclusive + collection but that's not the point i'm raising.
Most contributors just see it as an easy option, gifted to them by Istockphoto, to make more money from there work and give buyers less content from there credit bundles.
Yachts are so yesterday.A magic carpet to Milan is on my wish list.

Maybe you will like their new "exclusive minus" collection better.

Shank,
Please stop this game of playing with people here, you are a self confused hobbyist with a large portfolio with limited success. Respect this forum please.
I feel that you are milking the good will here. Ego?

oh come on. I mean, I certainly wish Shank would post more carefully, for his own sake if not for everyone else's, but you're taking yourself and this forum a little too seriously. a large percentage of what gets posted here is BS on a normal day. ignore him if you so please and don't reply. but your plea is almost farcical and unnecessary. leave him alone.
-
anyway he will get banned here soon
-
Why? He is a well known member in the community with quite a remarkable development, including his portfolio.
by the way - who are you? and your port?? What´s that like??
-
^ he has progressed well in his work given his admitted hobbyist approach. problem is, no one is here to remind Shank to behave. hint hint Shank.... ;)
-
Well Jam must be a fan of his. 7 posts on msg and 5 deal with the shank...

It would be unprofessional to use the wrong keywords, but most of us already knew that. Your point was ... ?

sister images at different prices.Contributors just using there exclusive + slots with normal microstock files which do not deserve to be in the higher price tier.
-
What I would want is to know what Shank's problem is, since I don't see a point of this thread and it's confusing at the same time since he's not up to IS for once (well he is in a few posts but, the thread as a whole is going the other way). Are you really going through all this lenghts to get unbanned on IS?
And I'd like to hear ShadySue say burglar alarm (hint yesterday's top gear;)

I go to John Lewis, Debenhams, Frasers, woteva and there are lots of goods keyworded 'blue', 'denim' and 'jeans' at vastly different prices from 'own brand' to 'designer'. The 'designer' jeans aren't necessarily better fitting or harder wearing than the 'own brand'. It's a model people are very used to in the real world.
Since you feel so strongly about it, why not do the buyers a real favour and become independent and your prices will automatically drop down.
Hint: if buyers don't think a file doesn't 'deserve' to be in a higher price tier, they won't buy it, if they can find what they need cheaper. Just like at John Lewis.
-
And I'd like to hear ShadySue say burglar alarm (hint yesterday's top gear;)
I guess we're on different episodes of TG. Yesterday they were using a Jaguar to pull a string of caravans along a railway line to illustrate how trains could/should be cheaper. (But now that I think about it, I missed the beginning of the prog.)

No, we're on the same one, they were talking again how Germans, no matter how perfect their English is can say squirrel properly and than wanted to do another test and asked the audience if there are any Glasgowegians among them, one stepped forward and they asked him to say burglar alarm. Of course they laughed their asses off when he went burrr-glarr alarrrm :D. And Hammond tried to imitate him a couple of times, almost got it right (he's better speaking hillbilly or redneck whichever you prefer). Check out the rerun, although you'll hear nothing new, just say it loud ;)

As an amateur/hobbyist it is only natural for you to not be concerned about making money from your work. Professionals naturally have a completely different opinion.
Also, your constant sweeping statements such as "most contributors" prevents me from taking you at all seriously. Shank, I think you are a bit of a crap-stirrer, and I presume that many of your gazillion posts are really not your opinions, but just ways of getting some much desired attention?

Oh, I did see that near the end. My accent is even worse as I have a burr (can't say my Rs properly, think Jonathan Ross if you've ever heard of him). I suspect it was the alarrrum bit they were laughing at. There's a name for that in phonetics, but I can't remember it - putting unaccented vowels between consonants. We also say wurruld for world. But a lot of English say something between 'alam/alom' and between 'wuld/woald' without the 'r'.
I'm just back from Dublin and am getting my head round how we pronounce 'slainte' (as in slainte mhath) something like 'slanj' and the Irish seem to pronounce it something like 'slond'.
-
Almost as bad as having a Gael from Lewis trying to communicate with one from Harris.
On one side of the hill a table is a "vord" on the other side it is a "voorshd"

I think the process of inserting that vowel (it's the same vowel in all cases, isn't it?) inbetween two consonants is called schwa-epenthesis. In non-rhotic accents of English there is never an r at the end of a syllable, and in inserting a vowel you've placed the r in the beginning of the next syllable.
I wonder what burr means? You don't pronounce r at the end of a syllable? I thought Scottish English does have r at the end of syllables.
-
I wonder what burr means? You don't pronounce r at the end of a syllable? I thought Scottish English does have r at the end of syllables.
No, it's actually a speech impediment, like a lisp but with 'R's, not 'S's. So Jonathan Ross would pronounce his name 'Woss', and so, apparently do I. It runs in my Mum's side of the family - they've all got it, so it must be a dominant gene. My sister has the worst of it, as she's called Barbara.
My Mum took me to a GP to try to get me to a speech the'w'apist as soon as I began to talk. He told her to take me back when I was twelve. I remember being marched to a newer, younger GP about the day after my twelvth birthday to be told I was 'far too old'. In the Grand Scale of Things, it hardly matters - it hasn't held back Wossy.
-
I'm not sure you're right, but then again, subtitles could be wrong I just checked it with subtitles, here's a screenshot:
Yup, it's the bit the subtitles have put as alar-rm - the hyphen denoting the non-specific vowel.
-
Ah, I see what you mean.

But the big difference is that some of the Thinkstock offerings are pretty high quality at unsustainable prices.

Yes but the shop owner selling everything for a pound still makes money because suppliers still sell in bulk to him at 60pence.Now other suppliers might think screw that i'm not selling my products for 60 pence..All markets, be it the higher/brand shops or discount warehouses, have buyers and suppliers.
BTW.I must shop at least once a month in a pound shop looking for cheap work tools/cleaning products/photo props.Saved a small fortune.

On the subject of E+, I've now got 34 E+ slots available. Before the price filter I usually had them all used up, but now I'm waiting to get a better idea of how sales patterns change.
Shame it's so difficult to work out sales patterns from our own sales data that iStock bother to make available to us.

New files are struggling to get any sort of foothold at the moment, such is the amount of content getting added to the library.I never notice patterns, i just know my good sellers keep selling at the moment.

Shank, haven't you just pointed out a sales pattern that you've noticed, then said that you never notice patterns? You're a funny guy ;)
What am I looking for? At the moment It'd be good to know how badly hit sales of my E+ and Vetta files have been by the introduction of the price filter.
Other times it could be useful to know loads of things from our sales data - how different types of files have performed, which files used to sell well but then suddenly stopped selling for whatever reason, ...

Your over thinking it.There are to many variables.Do we really no how buyers use the search engine or what search string they use.Just keep uploading what you consider to be useful and if they are they will be found and bought by the designers.I am funny. It's a gift .
-
i'm really really glad that i did not went exlusive at one point where i was planning to. Today all my revenue from stock sites are growing, except istock. istock has one of the most painful upload, keywording process, model release. this month istock sells as much as my 123rf despite constant upload.
the thing is most designers from my country is buying from istock. there has been a trend that asian designers are slowly moving elsewhere,. i guess there will be a point that it's not worth the time to upload to this site anymore.
cheers
