In 2017 the Download Target system has rewarded Exclusive contributors as we had hoped. Many have achieved higher royalty rates during 2017 and will keep these as their starting rates for 2018, plus many more contributors are moving up than will move down.

Really? Really? But wait, it gets better. All that hard work has paid off for you. Your being rewarded and here comes the love:

Were now pleased to share the Download Targets for 2018, which will be effective from January 1, 2018. Youll see that the targets are higher in 2018 by about 10%, which is designed to balance out these customer download trends.

Yes to both. You reached your level or quota for 2017, in thanks for your hard work they're raising that so you won't be able to make as much next year. Which means they will pocket more of your hard earned money.

I bet most of the "many that are moving up" are mostly from the absolute bottom tier to the next to bottom tier.

Oh, that's funny.  "Good job!  You screwed us with your hard work.  We'll make sure that doesn't happen again."

Guess too many contributors got a little too close to the higher royalty rate levels this year for comfort. By nudging up the targets 10% higher next year, they will sleep better at night knowing there is less of a threat of contributors hitting the higher tiers next year. Got to keep making sure Getty's profits continue rising.

Well put it this way, we will probably see more exclusives terminating their exclusivity. And Getty will wonder why.

Please explain what this means: "plus many more contributors are moving up than will move down."

Are they changing everyone's royalty rate?

It's the best line they could come up with that looks good, but tells you nowt.  It probably means most people are staying put because despite their efforts they could not meet the target and a few couldn't be bothered anymore and get dropped.  A few more, probably newbies who can up their port numbers relatively easily move up a notch.

I'm on the wrong side of this business. I should start an agency. Then I could pay people pennies to cart wheelbarrows full of cash and dump them in all of my fireplaces to keep my mansion warm.

Please explain what this means: "plus many more contributors are moving up than will move down."

At a guess, I would think that lots of people at the very lowest level move up one step, and a much smaller group at the highest levels move down one. In terms of money, Getty pays out a small amount to the lower level contributors and saves a bundle by paying less to the small number of high earners who form the bulk of their business.

Without having any way to check this out (there used to be some when more information was publicly shared), some flavor of the 80/20 rule covers microstock - 80 percent of the sales come from 20 percent of the contributors. So it is highly misleading to focus on the number of people moving up and down versus the $ value of sales carrying a higher or lower royalty rate.

For a long time, the assumption many of us made was that Getty wanted to average a 20% payout in royalties and would fiddle with the various groups and levels to get there.

I would think as big an issue facing those who are exclusive is declining sales, both volume and price (with lots more premium access at low prices) - the royalty rate is only part of the equation.

As the indy contributors leave or stop uploading they need to screw the exclusives that are no longer getting propped up by the screwing of the indies. Gradually everything will go to 20% or less.

15% for none exclusives, constant 1 cent royalties nothing but crud from them

I'd say its brainless

And yet strangely, very few new stock agencies seem to succeed.

Or worse, I don't know why I waited until now to close my account. I do, I was giving the new system a chance. They failed. There's a reason why IS went from top to under SS to under AS and will be passed by P5 this year.
Illustration 100.00% iStock 1.35 15.00% 0.20 which is less then a sub, anyplace including iStock. Or these electronic use, Price Per Image CALIFORNIA 0.12 varies 0.02, two cents? Only 150 more and I can buy a beer. I think the exclusive are doing the right thing if they have good work. Ind are being pushed out the door, or stay I get crapped on and IS makes more money.

They don't want me, I don't need them. Time to go.

That is sooo deflating! Wind out is sails!

Ive actually been consolidating agencies I work with, Im hoping my sales will eventually concentrate more. Also it will slightly minimise theft if Im not selling on every site out there.

With Getty I was feeling like a small child where adults were talking above me so I wouldnt understand them... thats Getty making checking stats more difficult, some odd named site to login a certain way, 2 company names, 20 collections , figuring the math of your targets that are always moving out of your reach...they like things very opaque ...  The K. I.S.S. Method works best

With GI and even IS, I am almost sure there are certain people in the Admin purposely working against contributors or some contributors. Whoever can forget that twatt Lobo at IS for example who constantly argued with every contributor under the sun, well that guy is now in the admin of Getty!!  haha! dont say very much for the Getty quality-control of employees does it? :)
