Thought this ad I just spotted while reading a Yahoo article was very appropriate...

*snicker*  Getty Images: It takes more. (And leaves you with less.)

That was exactly my thought!

I wonder what they were thinking when they came up with that copy? From the buyer perspective (more of their cash) it doesn't really work; from the supplier perspective they've cut royalty rates for so many Getty groups over the last year it's a cruel joke; perhaps it's a inside joke that H&F is taking more from Getty?

It takes more time to search? It takes more time to get images online? In what context is "it takes more" a good thing?

That is genuinely hilarious.  Even if they willingly tried to create copy to sabotage customers or contributors they couldn't have done a better job.  ;D

It's not 'hilarious' at all. It is at best mildly ironic. I find precious little amusement from an industry giant abusing it's suppliers or it's workers. Is it 'hilarious' that India has millions of children being exploited as workers? Is it 'hilarious' that so many Chinese workers have few rights and are employed in atrocious conditions? What's the difference other than the scale of the abuse?

The difference is that we have a choice.  No one is forcing us to sign up with Getty or any other stock photo retailer.  No one is forcing us to even be a photographer.  So yeah, it's hilarious.

Aside from the poor copy, it's just a bad ad. The design is awkward, layout looks like a mockup that somehow got into the media mix. This just proves that you may have the software, but it doesn't mean you're a designer. The ad should inspire the target audience, but it is at best invisible.

Speaking of ads, it seems every web page I go to these days has a * Shutterstock ad on it. Has iStock just stopped advertising, or what?

My best guess would be yes.

By the way, OT, love your tag line. One of my favorites.

That family is so happy, they climbed a mountain. If it wasn`t for Getty, they never could have accomplished this. I think that`s what it means.

If they Climb Ev'ry Mountain, maybe they're racing to escape the *.  Think the little girl's penis shaped hat has anything to do with it?

Huh? If your penis looks like that little girl's hat then you need to see a doctor __ very quickly. If not then you probably need to see a psychiatrist equally quickly for making such a connection.

Trust me, none of those particular body parts in any of my pictures.

Why? I always look that happy when I climb a mountain. A perfect capture of a moment that happens millions of times every day  :P
