Title: holy cow!
Post by: Greg Boiarsky on August 11, 2006, 22:20
Say what you will about Istock, but they sure know how to run a competition.  The one millionth photo wins a Canon 30D!  And, the one millionth member wins 1,000 credits!  Sure a whole lot better than what happened at FT . . .

I won't hold my breath--but it would be way cool to win, wouldn't it?

At least this is good for a fantasy.

Edit:  Crud.  Phildate beat me to the announcement.  Oh, well--maybe someone in our little forum will win.  What a hoot.

How much you wanna bet that the winner is exclusive!

I hope its one of the little fish somebody with a small but excellent portfolio because lets face it whoever does win as well as the camera they are going to get a lot of exposure for their portfolio so a lot of sales.

back on the 19th of July I predicted the 23rd of August for iStock breaking the one million mark, they will probably be a bit earlier but i wasn't too far off.

I wonder if Shutterstock will do anything for their millionth image (early September from previous calculations), even if there was no prize if your image made the frontpage - many many Dls.

I'm sure DT will do something but it won't be until sometime next year (haven't extrapolated for them yet)

Will CanStockPhoto fold before they reach 500,000 let alone 1,000,000?

That is a sure bet!
It will be someone with a big portfolio too, like Lisafx for example. We could run a book on who it will be, I can think of three strong contenders.

Yeah, wouldn't bet against it. I'd even bet it's one of the admin favourites. Then again, it's Walmart of microstocks.

It will be very interesting to see if it's one of their exclusives or not. I just passed the 25000 mark on IS without so much as anyone batting an eyelid. If it's an exclusive, you can bet there would be a big Woo Yay thread in the main IS discussion. Guess it's because I just don't get involved with the forums over there at all - all too weird for me. So, the 1,000,000th will be in next 10 days...hope someone who needs the camera gets it.

Yeah. Me please... :) I'm shooting with 350D. I could use an improvement.

I promise, if I win the camera I'll tell you guys about it (though then I'd have to disclose my tightly guarded anonymity)

Hmm...It seems to me that IS is being kind of cheap here, granted they don't have to do anything for the contributors, but why not spend a few more bucks and give away a 5D? 3 grand is chump change to them.

well as much as I like to join in on any istock complaining...

as you say, they didn't have to give anything at all.  They are giving away a stink of a lot more than fotolia did.

which still makes me shake my head... why they (fotolia) didn't toot their horn, or do a dance, or give away an ipod shuffle or something to commemorate the event.
