That diagram makes me both laugh and cry at the same time... :(

This month has started very badly on IS, it has ALWAYS been my top earner, but it's now 4th after DS, SX and FT... SS is 5th(!)

Can't you see the photoshop work :)  It did fool me for a few seconds though.

The Estimator has always been utterly useless anyway. The spoof version is probably just as accurate.

hehehe - too funny:) I liked that very much.
On a serious note though if anyone took Istock to court for discrimination of non-exclusive photographers (like RM photogs did with Getty for ridiculous pricing), I'd definitely join.
I mean, how can you justify commercially that you have to push non-exclusive content down in search engine ranking? Does every Istock customer want only exclusive content??? What's wrong with adding "search exclusive images only" to the search options instead of making it mandatory?
And sorting by relevance by default?
Istock's recent policies defy all common sense. Sure, promote your exclusive content, encourage people to go exclusive by offering them higher payouts, but why they are pushishing non-exclusive contributors??? For earning them money? With 80% of profits going to them??
Somebody please do something about this insanity....

However much you , me  or the office cat may not like whatever a current, and usually short lived, best match situation is, we are not privy to the long term strategy, and one think we can be sure of there will be layers of people involved in planning such a strategy given the ownership.
In the meantime we have amusing threads such as this to enjoy.

Hahaha beautiful, I love this kind of humor!  ;D

That's a good question! What's the big deal with exclusive content anyway? It's good for Istock, but what's the difference for customers? They don't get the image exclusive, so the chance of seeing the same image used elsewhere isn't that much smaller with Istock being the largest microstock company.

The difference is that ther can't get this image elsewhere. Just at istock.

..and the little plus of knowing exactly how many times has been bought (and so probably used) this pic. There's no way to know when the image is spread at five or ten sites.

I don't think IStock ever claimed it was good for anyone but them.
It's good because it attracts customers to the site.
It makes no difference to the customer overall, it just gives IStock a competitive advantage because customers know they get a larger selection by coming to the site.

Most people sell with the other sites before becoming exclusive, so they don't necessarily know exactly how many times an image has been bought before.

I just checked my numbers on the Estimator  :o

I started uploading to istock in January this year.. I only have a tiny portfolio (100).
As an exclusive, I can look forward to earning 79% of what I earned Jan-Oct during the next year... >:(   If I don't go exclusive the figure is 63% for the next year.

I might as well just stop uploading all together.  :'(

iStock is DYING on me. I have a 1100-ish portfolio, and yesterday (friday) was the single worst day in three years, only one $0.25 download. I have always had more even on the weekends. This looks very, very bad.

I had an awesome week - until yesterday. I got one download, which was beyond bizarre. I can't remember the last time that happened, even on a weekend. I can't see that the sort had any drastic tweaks, so I have no idea what was up. Hopefully not a bad omen.

Most people sell with the other sites before becoming exclusive, so they don't necessarily know exactly how many times an image has been bought before.

That just applies to a small nuber of old images in this members portfolio. Easy to tell.
