While my iStock revenue isn't what it used to be, it is still more than I am prepared to walk away from as an Exclusive. This leads me to explore other options that would not put my Exclusivity at risk. I believe Imagebrief would be one option as long as all the images I would submit are new and not already on (or similar to) my iStock portfolio.
I'd be interested in knowing what the experience of others here has been with Imagebrief.

You might want to re-read exclusivity terms: You can not license images to anyone with royalty free terms. No matter if they are similar to ones you have in your iStock portfolio or not. Not even directly or through your personal site, so most definitely not through ImageBrief either.
So the only briefs you can participate in without violating your exclusivity is the RM briefs which are very few.

No, the majority of briefs are RM. Roughly somewhere slightly over ½ but probably less than ⅔.

Looking at the Imagebriefs postings, there doesn't seem to be a consistent way of posting. They all reference "Permitted Uses" which is how they intend to use the image, and then under Exclusivity almost all say "not exclusive". Am I ok to submit for ones that don't indicate Royalty Free under permitted uses? In other words, if they say the permitted use is "Broadcast", or "Book Cover" or "Print Editorial" (essentially not including the words Royalty Free) is that just a more specific way of saying Rights Managed?

I'm pretty sure everything on there is RM unless they specifically say it's RF, and while they have been adding more RF briefs the majority are still RM, so you should be good to submit to most of them with images and similars that you are not submitting to iStock.
I haven't submitted to many briefs lately but have been shortlisted there before but no sales to date. It seems like a worthwhile endeavor. I don't know what you shoot but you could also try putting some RM on Alamy to expand your options if you haven't already. In my experience Alamy sales have been growing lately - but my portfolio is primarily editorial and travel and that's what sells for me there. Good luck!
