Title: IS Upload Nightmare
Post by: stock_fan on April 13, 2009, 01:45
I just started uploading at IS again. Has something changed in their "keyword recognition". I keyword all my images in Photoshop CS3. The reason was because that was the only program I had and IS would read the keywords automatically.

Somehow this does not seem to work anymore? Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions?

On top of that.

Could someone with "IS influence" pls suggest to improve this. No, I will not do it ... probably get banned for that.

Sorry for the bad language, but it's frustrating the crap out of me. The interface is 10yrs behind. Rant over.

Thx!

I do keywording of all of my images in Photoshop, but I use DeepMeta to upload images to IS. I advice you to download and install DeepMeta and you will avoid site glitches like this one. I had problems few times before when I used to upload images using web form.
When you use DeepMeta you can do everything offline, you can prepare your images earlier, you can copy/paste all data from one image to another, and you can click "upload" button and go to sleep. DeepMeta will do everything for you.
This is not a commercial :D but I don't know what would I do without DeepMeta.

Deep meta rules.   I have more problem with picking the right keywords though.

I wish they'd hurry up and get the Mac version working!

Thanks Flemish although I have already seen that, unfortunately they've disabled the download of the test version. Plus to be honest I'm interested in the uploading part of deepmeta and looking at their timescales that's not going to be implemented till 05/2009  :(

It happens that I knew the guy as he is in Brussels too and we started around the same time at iStock. He has a small design company that's run very well, with top software products. Apparently he has been looking for a framework that supports both Mac and Windows, with most of the code on top of it. Probably because he missed some market share as the established designer's world is still predominantly Mac. I just guess that Deepmeta (which is free) has to share his time spent on porting other products. If anyone can do it, it's certainly him. I happen to know he has small kids so he probably took some time off during the local Easter break here, which ends tomorrow. I'm sure he will produce results as soon as he is able to.

I use Photoshop CS3 for editing and keywording as well.

When you don't see your IPTC-data after uploading an image to istockphoto, there is a strange way to get them back: Visit an entry in the forum, go back to your upload and your keywords re-appear.

Don't ask me HOW it works, but it does. I read it somewhere in the IS forum.

Bye,
Robert

I've heard nothing but praise for deepmeta and can't wait till he gets it working on Mac's. I can use his keyword wizard which is superb, it's the painstaking uploading one by one that I'm eager to say goodbye to, and before anybody asks, yes I tried the iPhoto plugin on iStock but it messes with my internal admin set up.

I hope iStock look after this guy in some way, designing and letting people use this software for free is praise worthy indeed.

It's been about a week since I U/L'd to IS but all my keywords come in. I am using Photoshop CS4 (on a Mac) so I don't know if this is something that they only recognize in CS4 as compared to CS3. I would highly doubt that but you never know.

I think it's incredibly funny that istock spent tons of time and $$ on improving their keyword search, and then in order to have your keywords even show up, you have to click on the forums first.  Ha!! That just cracks me up.

And what a load of bull...go get another piece of software to do what Photoshop, the largest image editing program, can't do anymore?

istock needs to forget about the istockalypses and the partying and the wooyaying and get some basic business done!

I can't imagine uploading there without DeepMeta. If only iStock released functions to enable resubmitting in Deepmeta as well.

ONe thing I love about it is that I can add images to it the same time when I put them to be uploaded to other sites. That way I know I won't forget to submit an image just because I don't have upload slots left at the moment. :)

Nope, I'm using CS4 on a Mac and I have to do the old forum visit trick every time.
