Title: Istock and its joining policy
Post by: ZMB on January 16, 2008, 08:46
HI

I am listed on a few stock sites and was considering joining istock - i got as far as them asking for a copy of my passport! Does anyone find that dodgy? or am I just being overly paranoid that my identity might get into the wrong hands??

I think, if you are outside US and Canada it is a norm for them to ask for passport copies.
nobody posted anything bad coming out of it.

when I applied at istock, I found that a bit weird too, because I didn't feel ok about revealing data they do not need.  I contacted istock about it and they told me I could black out any information they did not request. So I did - and joined.

Yeah, i would take Mell's advice and blank out what they don't need.

Istock is a perfictly legit company so I wouldn't be too concered.  It is not a dodgy company like many others on the internet.

Shutterstock also asks for a passport copy BTW

Something I was suggested some time ago (maybe even here): insert a text, like a watermark, saying that the file is for iStock use only (or whatever site you send it too).  Of course this is not a true protection, but at least will keep lazy mal-intended people that may put their hands in it by accident.

Regards,
Adelaide
