Title: istock canisters and commissions for non-exclusives?
Post by: Artemis on November 24, 2009, 17:12
I have been searching around for the commission chart for non-exclusives on istock but couldn't find it anywhere...(the exclusive one i found on the site)
Made me wonder, when you go up in canister there, do commissions raise as well, or not?
Could anyone point me to a chart or anything that applies for non-exclusives?

Muchos thanks :)

Here it is : http://www.istockphoto.com/photographer-royalties.php (http://www.istockphoto.com/photographer-royalties.php)

And no. Commissions don't follow canisters for non-exclusives.

Thanks for your replies guys!  :D
I searched and searched but didn't land on that page ErickN, it's exactely what i needed.
Hmm, you say it doesn't follow canisters...but it states +5% for bronze, +10% for silver etc...
I guess this is only for exclusives then? (although its not specified so anywhere there...)

First sentence on the link Erin posted:

iStock pays a base royalty rate of 20% for each file download and up to 40% for Exclusive contributors.

So us non-exclusives get only the base of 20%.

To answer the next question that I sense looming out there, the point of the cannister change for independents is that you get a slightly higher upload allowance.

There may also be some additional buyer confidence in buying from someone who's sold a lot. Hard to quantify or demonstrate though.

Ahhh, thanks again! My notorious dense-ness acting up again, i totally missed that phrase  because i directly clicked through to the next page with the full royalty structure :-\

So far for looking forward to silver....

They used to give you more uploads but I have the same 20 now that I had a year ago when I was bronze because of the "temporary" reduction in upload slots.

Agreed.

Even though I would much prefer to get a % royalty increase with each cannister, I still do enjoy going up a cannister.  It's nice to have recognition and goals as you progress.

So what are the current upload limits at each canister? I was having trouble finding it. I thought it used to be on the upload page, but I don't see it there.

Bummer, I thought I'd get more money as I went up in canister levels as a non-exclusive. OK, well I still make more per download on IS than anyplace else. Three times of four times more! Unfortunately I still make more dollars in sales at SS, so I have to keep them both.  :)
