Interesting tidbit in the latest istock email. Alexa ratings aren't perfect but very interesting anyway. i guess one way to get up there would be to have all submitters to get an alexa tool bar and then ask them to check their earnings evey 10 min (that would increase hits!)
iStock Hits the Top 300
Our 6-month average traffic ranking at Alexa.com just moved past the 300 mark the other day. That's right folks: iStockphoto.com is the 295th most-visited website on the planet. Thank you for refreshing your screens so often everybody.

Which brings up a question:
How many of you have the Alexa toolbar?
-
Also, I really wonder how acurate Alexa is. Take for instance the following graph:
Is iStock really 4x bigger than Shutterstock? I doubt it very much...
-
well i wouldn't doubt it. i think shutterstock has fewer buyers but bigger buyers. Istock has lots of smaller buyers and a TON of forum traffic and other such parusing
i don't have an alexa toolbar.

In my experience everyone and their aunt seem to know about iStock these days - even people not in the design/photography world. Far fewer people seem to be familiar with Shutterstock.
Oh ... and I don't have an Alexa toolbar either. Don't want one. A bit too much like 'Big Brother' for my taste.

From a buyers perspective, iStock would appeal to everyone where as SS only if you have a subscription. Therefore, potential, SS would ahve less people browsing the site???
