Title: Istock T-shirt contest - Extended Licenses applicable on the designs?
Post by: Pixel-Pizzazz on December 04, 2008, 21:46
I was wondering if anyone knows if the winning designs for the Istock t-shirt design contest were subject to extended licenses for the stock images used to create them, since the t-shirts are being sold?

I hope the contributors of the images used in the winning designs get some sort of extra credit (linkable exposure), and, of course, the extended license royalties they would expect to get if someone other then Istock was selling t-shirts with their images on them.

The final products, that are in the store now, look fantastic.  Congrats all around too.

I was thinking that the $500 they each received would have covered it. No?

ETA: Here's the link to the latest Contact Sheet. They got a little exposure there, too.

Designer and contributer were not necessarily one in the same.  Yes?

The $500 and the exposure went to the winning designers (who used Istock contributer images in their designs).

Oh okay, I get what you're saying. Sorry. My friends who competed all used their own artwork. I didn't think about whether the winners had.

I would think they are entitled to an EL in that case.

No worries.  Thanks for taking time to reply.  I can't find any of the original forum posts announcing the winning designs - but I remember reading about at least one winning design by someone other than the contributor.
