Title: Istock Video - HD, NTSC & PAL???
Post by: Mantis on January 26, 2014, 20:15
I am in the process of applying for video on Istock.  I currently have about 50 videos on SS and P5 and thought I'd carve out some time to apply for Istock.  And WOW, quite cumbersome.  Anyway, they "infer" that I should be uploading HD video and "if I want" NTSC and PAL formats. I imagine that an HD video is easily converted to most any format and uploading other formats isn't necessary.  But rather than assume, I thought I'd pose this question to those who do upload video to Istock.  Do you just upload one HD and leave it at that?

Aside from that I don't have FTP access so I had to write CR to get approved to upload to be approved.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Yeah, I upload one HD video (1080p) only.

Only HD.

After you passed the initial test, you need to request for an ftp account. And when you are uploading via ftp, you must make it like; /filename_done/filename_HD.mov

I am on the same boat, I'd like to know also if it's useless to upload NTSC and PAL version. I believe with HD we can then reduce to other formats but that means buyers has to buy the HD in order to transform into what they want...

Just upload the HD version. NTSC and PAL are still there, but are dated. IS will offer the HD footage in 4 sizes regardless

I only upload the pal version. As far as I know, buyer can convert this into ntsc easily if needed; Premiere Elements asks me when I am exporting a file whether it should be pal or ntsc? (I keep the frame rate usually at least 30.)

Please prove me if I am wrong..

I belive PAl frame rate should be 25fps and NTSC is typically 30(29.97).

So I am uploading ntsc then, if (only) the frame rate determines the system?

But if the file is not going to be played on tv as it is, does the frame rate, pal/ntsc or the format make any difference? By sending at minimum 30, i just want to give to the buyer an option to use it at the frame rates more than 25.

30 to 25/24 is possible but from 25 to 30 might be a little problematic I think..

No PAL has different dimensions than NTSC also.

As long as we upload 1920•1080, there should not be a problem, I think. Pal/NTSC thing is a little bit confusing  :-\
