Don't know if anyone is reading the old thread so will post this here as well:

Regarding the lightboxes...

Can one remove an image from the lightbox and replace it with another...ie rotate the 5 images, or even just remove them if you wanted to?  I forgot you could only put in 5 when I initially submitted them.

I have to do it manually (perhaps i will make an automatic thing in the future)
If you want to delete an image from a lightbox, send me a link to which image you want deleted.

Are the lightboxes upgrading correctly?
It seem that there are the same images as yesterday. There is only 1 of mine of my 5

Istock sometimes takes a day or so before the changes are made public.  Say which images are missing for you and i can double check?

Hi, I was adding my vectors to the lightboxes and a thought suddenly occured to me... is it ok to add vectors to your lightboxes? Or you need photos only? If you don't accept please remove my vector. I'm new at this lightbox thingy and took days to figure out how to do it. Haha!

Hi leaf,

I tried to add some images to the Nature lightbox, but I get a message telling me the banner is not in the description field. But it is.
Is this something you could verify? Thansk in advance!

Images are: 6347880, 6285255, 6047941, 5433121, 6267119

Keep up the great work!

it looks like you have a few extra characters in the code.  Try replacing the code (copy and paste) using the code that the tool gives you (when it says the code isn't there).

Let me know if you don't get it to work.

Hi Leaf,

Love the lightboxes with the list of them all including the code.  Just had a question.  If I already have images in existing lightboxes, how do I get them to show on the page with the lightbox list?  Can I just add the image ID into the desired lightbox and hit submit or will that mess you up because they are already in there?

Thanks,
Stacy

no, that is the best way.

Just 'add' them like they were new images and things will work out.

Great idea for showcasing onse images and promote Microstockgroup at the same time: I've been in stock photography for a little over a year and found this forum only last week. :)

May I suggest one more Microstockgrou iStock lightbox - "Tavel" for all those images from the exotic locations.

EDIT: Is it possible to make "Insert Image" text in the upper left section ("Istock Lightboxes") into a link, which points directly to http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?action=istocklightbox ?

I had two DL on two files (one on each) I have just add to the summer lightbox.
I am quite sure it is thanks to the lightbox.
Thanks again leaf, hope you are all having great time in Malta.

Stinky,

You have to add the banners in the images.  Get the proper codes here:
http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?action=istocklightbox

Only images with the banners will be added.  Anyway, Leaf is away and I think he has to do some trick before your images appear in the lightboxes.

Adelaide

Hi Adelaide:

This is what I did:

1) I click on the image and select "add to a lightbox"
2) in the new lightbox section, I type in the lightbox name, copy and paste the url code into the description box, and click "add"

What am I  missing?

Thanks in advance,
Stinky

Ok, i think things are up to date again now.  Let me know if your images are missing or there are other errors.

Sinkyjess, you have to add the image numbers using the tool located on this page

Hmm well if you followed what you said in your previous post it seems you are doing it wrong... - it sounds like you are trying to add it to a lightbox on the istock site, but you should be adding it on microstockgroup.

All you basically have to do is go to this page
http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?action=istocklightbox

and type in the image numbers of the images you want to add.

Hi Leaf:

I did as you suggested, typing in the istock image number into the provide web page and this is what I got (in red):

Microstockgroup Istock Lightboxes

There was a problem adding this image to the Healthy Foods lightbox
It looks like you still need to add the appropriate banner to this image.

Here is the text you need to put in the description

Click the thumbnail to go directly to the image edit window
(remember: you need to be logged in to Istock to edit the file)[/font]

So that is what i did, going to my image page on istock and paste the above url onto the " Add To A Lightbox" description window. .

Please advise.

Stinkyjess

No, that is wrong.

You have to ad that text to the image description. you do that by going to the image page on istockphoto site- then..

clicking on the 'edit file information' link

then add the text to the description of the image

THEN, go back to microstockgroup and type in the image number and lightbox in the forms.

Hi leaf

Is it OK to add referral program links to the lightbox code, after the images have been added to the lightbox?  I tried doing it beforehand but then it didn't recognise the banner code of course...

Thanks for all your work on this, it's a great idea.

sure - that is fine.  Do you get a referral credit when someone clicks on your lightbox?

Not just from a click, no - I've never checked, but I assume it saves a cookie when the link is clicked and if the user joins iStock and buys credits within something like two weeks or whatever, iStock give you $10...  so it would really only work here if someone new went to the lightbox FROM the link in the image description, then joined, etc.

Not all that likely in this case perhaps, but whatever, it does no harm, and I've earned $50 from referrals so far.  I put referral links on all my cross linked images.

Oh, I think you have to have signed up for the referral program too of course...

yeah, i have a referral link, I was just surprised that you can get credit from them clicking a banner, because they would already be online at istock if they clicked it.... but it could be true.

Well, I can't swear to it working, I'd seen it used that way by others, that was all.  After all, the images can be viewed by someone who isn't a member (or isn't logged in) so if they were to click it, it would count.

Probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyway.  When looking at the list of lightboxes and clicking on the c for the code, I can't seem to cut/paste that code.  I've tried highlighting and it won't work.  Is there a trick to this so I don't have to manually try to copy the code?

Thanks,

Stacy

I usually tried to add a picture that didn't have the banner yet, then the site refreshes, telling you that you need to insert the code. You can copy it there.

yeah, trying to just add a dummy image is the best for now.  For some reason when using Internet Explorer (and probably other browsers) you can't copy and paste a 'warning box' text.  With firefox you can copy the text.

Hi folks,
I'd like to suggest to have a way to add to Microstockgroup Istock Lightboxes the ID# of the LIGHTBOX instead of the image ID#. So, I would point my existing LB into a Microstockgroup Istock Lightboxes that would read/import all images ID#. Like MOO does when you request a B.Card. I mean, you get to point and import a Lightbox.
Well, just a suggestion.

Question for ya Leaf...I submitted several different images to the lightboxes yesterday...of course I kept getting that error message about the banner thing...I just went under iStock and copy and pasted it to the photos I wanted on there then saved. I didn't come back here and do it because I kept getting the error messages even after I had already done it....wouldn't that way work also?? I would think it would, but thought I'd ask anyway. I haven't seen them on there yet but I figured it took a day or two to get them to show for public view.

when you put the banner in your image you are not adding the image to the light box, you are just placing a banner on your image page that sends people to the lightbox when they click on it.

To add your image to the light box you have to go through the process here.
So, to summerize.  To add your image to the lightbox you have to

Add the banner to the image (in iStock)
Tell microstockgroup to add your image to the lightbox on this page

How long does it take for images to show up in the lightboxes?
I added some yesterday afternoon, put the banners into the description, and they're showing up here as having been added, but the five I added to the Nature box aren't showing in there yet, nor do they show in my 'lightboxes' thingy in My Uploads on iStock.
Usually, if I add an image to an iStock lightbox, it works immediately.

yeah, if you add them to one of your own lightboxes it shows up for your immediatly, but to others it takes a day or two to get there.

For the MSG lightboxes, once you add them through the site here, I have to click on a button (which I just did now).  Then wait a day or two and THEN they will be in the lightbox.

Would it be better if submitter can add 5 images each month instead of once in a lifetime? Or just single image, but each month?
In this case submitter will pick up the best one, an also fresh one.
If we all limited to only 5 without any (simple) possibility to rotate them, with time we would have only old (and thus, most probably, not the best) images in Microstockgroup Lightboxes...

How do You think?

P.S. Many thanks for this opportunity to promote our images!

I think the original idea about limiting the number of images per photographer - Leaf can correct me - was to give equal exposure to any of the participants.

yes, quite right.  And for it to not get out of hand in the amount of work involved.

I agree and respect the idea of "equal exposure". I am just thinking about future of the lightboxes.

Equal exposure is fair rule. But from the other side these lightboxes suppose to attract more buyers to our images now and in the future. To be efficient in it, they must contain the best of our images. With time (I, personally do it) photographer can return to previous subjects an made way better image, or few. And here I see two possibilities:
 - the lightbox is updated - photographer contacts Leaf, Leaf removes old stuff, photographer submits new images. Not the easiest way for the photographer and Leaf;
 - the lightbox remains unchanged. photographer is too lazy or just don't want to waist his time to update the lightbox.

In the first case there will be new images in the lightbox, and it suppose to be OK for its popularity. In the second - the lightbox would never be popular since buyers will see the same images from year to year.

Again, each photographer is different. Someone have beautiful summer images, some other - hot drinks. I am sure they both would be happy to have 5 more places in the lightbox of their best-selling subject for 5 places in other lightbox, where they have nothing to submit. And the more good images - the better lightbox.

Forgive me for being so persistent, but I just want to understand how it works and would it bring some money now and in the future.

By the way - the automatic image submission via web interface is just brilliant idea, I haven't seen such easy solution before.
