Title: My deleted port is still there after a year and a half!!
Post by: donding on March 09, 2013, 22:27
I was just doing a tineye search on some of the pictures I've sold on Shutterstock. I found matches to my deleted port on iStock!!! They are even still being offered for sale. My whole port is still on there. I dropped them over a year ago!! I couldn't log in as donding...they changed it to dondingCLOSED. I even have a balance of over $100 there. I went through and deleted my whole port one by one. This really PO's me. You might want to check to see if they still have you on there as "your user name CLOSED" If I had not never did a tineye check, I wouldn't have even known they owed me money or that they still had my port up!!!

That's shocking. I was even able to put one of your files in a shopping cart, I don't know if it would have allowed me to go through the final stage of buying it.

I hope that You put Vetta pics in shopping cart and bought them as well  ;)

Than we all have a sixpack on donding account...

I dont know whats going on either. I had 11 images on IS 3 weeks before the 2 feb deactivation. I had $3.84 on my account when I deactivated all images. A few weeks later, I had $6.xx on my account And now more then a month after that I have $10.44. I cant even see my own images as they are all deactivated, my port for me shows as empty.  I dont see them on TS either. Its shady to say the least.

Maybe thats why they say they are doing fine. They keep selling images of contributors that think they have deleted or deactivated their portfolio. For IS their is no drop in images at all.

my deactivated images are still there, when you check the "deactivated" dropdown box.
out of curiosity I tried to reactivate one, and it didn't allow it. interesting. not sure what's going on over there. where is Sean to raise concern in the forums at iS? :)
all part of their grand plan I suppose?

Wow, that stinks. I didn't actually close my account, but deactivated all images. Every now and again I have gone back and checked because I was worried that exactly this would happen, knowing how incompetent (or shady, whichever reason you might subscribe to) they have been. I just did another check for a few images, and don't see them coming up. I'll use Tineye to double check though.

It's almost like they locked you out by changing your login name to "shut you up", but never bothered to follow through with the deactivations. Ba$tards. Wonder how many others?

Believe me I was shocked. I was finally able to log in under my e-mail address. I was able to put them in a shopping cart and go as far as checkout. Of course I didn't check out. I remember when I requested they close my account after I got payout and then there was a small bal...like $3.00 and I requested they pay me that to, but never heard back from them. Then I wasn't able to log in after that. I didn't make a big deal about it because I just wanted off there. Now I know why I couldn't log in because they changed the account name, but at the time I assumed the account was closed because I couldn't log in. I haven't contacted them yet. I'm afraid if I go back and deactivate all those files again they will turn around and change the name again. As a matter of fact when I initially deactivated the files there was one left. It wouldn't let me deactivate the last one so I contacted them about it and told them the problem I was having and requested they close my account. They told me no problem they would take care of it. I guess I need to go in and see if the financial information is still right. I'm still in shock. Those A-HOLES!!!

I just went back and checked...because I thought there were more files on there than what is shown now. The non sellers they left deactivated. I started deactivating the non sellers first and then worked my way up.

Are you able to contact them?
Make sure you take all necessary screenshots first.
Let us know what happens.
Good luck getting this sorted to your satisfaction.

I don't remember the bit in the contributor account about allowing them to sell images long after deactivation and leaving the site and that they could keep the money.  How can it be legal?

So is this a one-off glitch or something more persistent? If the latter, then it could potentially be a huge problem.

All I know is that I deactivated all my files and then ask that they close my account. Hence the user name dondingCLOSED. I would have never found it if I hadn't done a tineye search. I haven't even checked on Thinkstock to see if they are also on there. I don't have time for all this crap. The more I think about it the madder I get.

I don't even remember how to do anything on there. Where do I go to see the payment settings so I can see if they even still have it linked to my paypal account?

Thanks, but I found that. I was wanting to find out if they have it linked with my paypal account. I don't want to request payment until I know where it is going. Can I request and see where it is going before they send it then cancel? I want to make sure everything is off there before I request payment.

I can only assume that sacking Sean has worked, since I'm fairly sure this topic would have attracted more than seven people's comments in the old, pre-sacking days.
Keep your heads down, lads!

I think it is more h@ck-up fatigue then fear.  I'm certainly not afraid of Istock.  I'm simply not surprised that this has happened.  I would not be at all surprised if somebody came forward with proof that Getty was fiddling the sales numbers either.

I agree with Sadstock, I have lost all interest in this ruthless corrupt company which lacks business ethics on all levels. I can not say that I am at all surprised by this thread and feel for the OP.

Certainly not scared of them, because I have pulled all of my images from the site.

I thought I saw a thread by the OP on  iStock where Lobo admitted that CR had not closed the account properly and it would now be actioned; but I can't find it now.

Yeah he said they would have someone contact the OP.  This seems like an accident and a one time event that they are taking seriously and trying to fix quickly.

I am not surprised either, certainly not afraid of them because i left a long time ago. And i would not be surprised to find out it has happened more than once. If they were taking it seriously, why is donding having to deactivate? Why hasnt she received a phone call and a check for the money they owe her? I am prone to think they are busy concocting the spin.

I hope whatever resolution they work out includes paying Donna what's owed her for the images they have continued to sell.

Donna, I hope you saw the reply to your post by Lobo. I can't now see the thread in Help or discussion or PP forums, and can't think where else it could have been.
Anyway, he said you had to check your email; I hope things have been completed to your satisfaction.

Of course...
You can expect iStockphoto to use any dirty trick.
Their software is programmed that way, and the employees have gotten used to it.
Their business etics compares to that of casinos and sellers of patent medicine, if not worse.

I think they should also pay some decent compensation for all the time wasted and for selling image licenses without the copyright holders consent.  I don't expect them to do that though.

The case is pretty clear.
They have distributed without the rights to do so.
And earned an undeserved profit.
They could easily be sued for that amount.
And then they will claim it was an unusual unexpected software problem.
Which is irellevant.

Like if you distribute stolen goods in a van that has unusual hardware problems.

My portfolio is gone from iStock as it should be (account cancelled January 23) -- but I just learned today that (1) five of my images are still up at getty images site and (2) there has been at least one purchase (one that I have proof of, and another that I suspect but have no proof of), and who knows how many that I don't know of that don't show up in a google image search.  :(    I'm not upset with iStock, as they weren't purchased from them, but I'm livid with Getty.  :(

So long as it benefits them monetarily and somehow screws over contributors, it's never a priority. This doesn't surprise me at all. At this point, I wouldn't put anything past them.

Why don't you ask them for a full record of when these sales were made and the money they owe you?  If they're selling images when they have no right to, aren't you entitled to some compensation?  Don't they need to pay much more than a commission if they're selling images without a contract and without the copyright holders permission?

i just made 6.36 dollars via istock, despite all my images are deactivated.
6.36 is a funny and not important number.
However it is 15% of something.

And istock is making much more out of my deleted images.
How can that be?
