Title: New prices
Post by: rene on January 07, 2008, 11:57
Hi,
New prices started today on Istock. Good news, I have 4 downloads with new price and 3 with old price. Customers are still there!

yeah, that will be nice.  It will be interesting to see how the graph on the right changes through the next few months.

Well I'm probably tempting fate here, but bloody hell!!! My commission on iS so far today is three times that of SS, normally they run pretty much the same.
Boy I hope this keeps up, I'm very nearly at the stage of saying Woohoo which being English is something I would never do ;-)

$2.20 for a Large is VERY nice. (non-exclusive commission)

I still remember the days when it was $1 for a large.

We will see if is affects sales.

istock now make $8.80 on those $2.20 sales for non-exclusives.  I do feel it is time they gave us a better share.

istock now make $8.80 on those $2.20 sales for non-exclusives.  I do feel it is time they gave us a better share.

In order for that to happen they would first need to increase the share for exclusives.

But 60% for exclusives (diamond) and 40% for non-exclusives would be very nice.

Yes, a better commission for all of us is what I would like to see.  The price rise will probably lead to a fall in sales, so an increase in commission would keep me interested.  I have lost motivation with istock.

How about a 50/50 split for all exclusives and use the system they have now for non exclusives based on the canister level.

I had just one sale today, and got mere 19c from it.  :(  I rarely get anything under 22c...

I noticed a few "medium" image sales rolling by at a net of $1.10-$1.15, compared to $0.84-$0.88 for the same images last month.  A nice increase for certain.  But a simple 30% non-exclusive commission bump would be huge.

3.10$ for a large one that is extremely great for me and my small portfolio. At the same time the reviews are still in 3 days only, that's great

If I keep getting the same sales here as I did last year with the new prices I'll be very happy. It might even make going exclusive worthwhile.

I am little confused.
So you got $3.5 for a large as a non-exclusive. So the customer paid $17.5 for the image. Large should be 10 credits so 1 credit cost him/her $1.75.
But the most expensive credit should be $1.3.

Anybody has an explanation? ???

Maybe it was an XLarge which costs 15 credits.

Maybe.

But also Vonkara had a large sale for $3.1 which is also too much.
Maybe they have a bug in the system.

I had a large sale for $4,10. Maybe I got the diamond exclusive royalty :). But now it seems to be normal again, I mean as expected by the announced raise.

I just had a large for $4.  That is the price I would like to get from istock but it doesn't seem to fit in with the new price rise.  I wonder how long it will take them to sort this out?  Would be nice if they let us keep the extra dollars but I am not expecting that to happen.

I just read this in the IS forum from an admin.  This could make me start uploading to them again:-

People. The money you're getting is correct. As we keep saying, it's possible you will make much more money on foreign currency transactions. Go forth and celebrate. We're not taking the money away. And pretty please, everyone can stop site mailing me asking if the money is going to be taken away! It's right! Remember I told you before the price increase, we business geeks really know what . we're doing around here. :P

Thanks sharpshot.  I hate having to dig through 100's of istock forum posts to get this info. You saved me some sanity.  :)  And believe me, there's not much left!   ;D

That is very interesting. I guess I don't have many foreign buyers. And the foreign buyers are getting screwed hardcore.

Thanks, Sharpshot!  I was wondering what the heck was going on.  Thought maybe my math skills had seriously deteriorated overnight or I had started hallucinating!  ;-)

But...it looks like IS is rolling back the prices for buyers in the UK and Euro, so I'm assuming the great commissions will be coming to an end soon.  :-(

Thanks for posting this Karimala.  I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.  It's going to be a bummer seeing those higher commissions go but I can understand why they did it.

I just have 2 XL today. That make me 4.65$ each. How incredibly great it is. As I understand, the price have increased, but the credits are a bit cheaper too...

Sorry, but what exactly does that mean? Are there higher prices somewhere in the world in an IS site?

There where. For a short period UK buyers (paying with British Pounds) where charged twice the price and EURO buyers 1.5 times of what the price in US$ was (and contributors got their percentage of these up to 2 times higher royalties). Bruce (istocks CEO) just thought it was a good idea to screw a few people around the world, and so they implemented a localized price scheme going online together with the announced credits increase. The funny thing in this was that Brits could compare prices and save 50% with simply switching the purchase currency to US$ ...

After >5 days of protests in the forums this decision was revoked.

And here comes the absurd part: Now dozens of people who kept silent during the protests are actually hurraying Bruce for what a tough and nice guy he is and how fair istock treats its various contributors etc.pp. Unbelievable. Istock was going to squeeze European buyers without any announcement (they just locally replaced the "$" with Euro/Pound symbols at the start page and tried to get away with it!), and now they are considered as heroes because they had to give up this strategy after some people started to ask the right questions!

Indeed, a very unprofessional behaviour from IS and supporters.  :(
