I received an email from Zoonar, who sublicenses to Photolibrary. Getty has purchased Photolibrary and will be distributing the images through Thinkstock. I'm now researching how to remove my images from photolibrary.

Here is the full story:

"You have probably already heard that Getty Images bought our partner agency Photolibrary which will close in October 2011.

You will probably be pleased to hear that we have now negotiated a partner contract with Getty Images. We can now offer you to transfer directly all the pictures which Zoonar has already activated for Photolibrary to the worldwide Getty market. The pictures will then be loaded to Thinkstock, Photos.com, and Jupiterimages and be sold via the Getty subscriptions. This way you can receive very high turnover rates. That's why we recommend you to accept the distribution via Getty Images. It will pay off for you!

Should you not wish to distribute your photos via Getty Images, we ask you to recall the concerning pictures in your Zoonar partner administration by October 9, 2011. All pictures which you recall from the partner Photolibrary by October 9, 2011, will be removed before the six months' period so that they will not be transferred to Getty Images.

In a later step, we will then offer you to activate more pictures for Getty Images. As further development work is required for this, we will let you know as soon as it is possible. But please expect that in 2-3 months.

Kind regards,

Michael Krabs
Zoonar GmbH"

Well unlike the introductory statement I am not pleased. Sorry.

Dear Mr. Krabs. I just have to let you know taht I am not pleased. Making business with Getty sheds a bad light onto anyone deciding to do so these days.

What really sucks is there is no way to remove Photolibrary from the list. Zoonar lets you pick which partners you want to work with but if you change your mind you have to go one by one through your whole portfolio to change the options. There is no way to cancel the partner agreement. I just closed my account as I've never had a sale there in 2 years.

I just feel for those who are staying with IS. Their images on Thinkstock won't get seen anymore than they are on IS because Getty is importing images from various other sources to Thinkstock.

I can't afford to leave istock, so my stuff is going to end up on TS anyway.  Are they going to be able to cope with all these duplicates?  I presume Zoonar are going to take their cut from the $0.28, so what does the contributor get?  We need an easy way to opt out.  TS is going to get flooded with images and I don't think any of us will get many sales there.  I just hope the buyers stick with SS.

change from macro library to thinkstock, I can't imagine too many of photolibrary's contributors being impressed  ???

more info about rates etc with the zoonar partnership would be good. :)

I wasn't with Zooner but do/did have some photos on sale at Photolibrary.

I think the title of this thread may be a bit misleading, from the statement you posted and specifically the section I've copied here it mentions that 'Zoonar' content that was with Photolibrary can/will be moved to Thinkstock etc, it doesn't say that all Photolibrary content will be moved to Thinkstock.

That may well happen in the future but it's not what is being said here.

According to the email Photolibrary is closing. All content will be moved to either Thinkstock, Photos.com or Jupiterimages. There's no information as to how royalties will be paid or at what percentage. If your on Zoonar you can click "partner managerment" and select Photolibrary to see what the old terms were.

Which email, if you're referring to the one 'Eco' has posted above it's from Zoonar and like I said it mentions that the Zoonar content on Photolibrary will be moved to Thinkstock, where have you got the information that ALL Photolibrary content will be moved to Thinkstock, because it doesn't mention anything of the sort in that email?

Photolibrary contains many different collections at different price points, I haven't seen anything anywhere that suggests all of these will be moved to the Getty Thinkstock collection. And I can guarantee you there'd be a lot of macro photographers up in arms if they found their macro priced photos being sold at micro subscription prices, not to mention a lot of Photolibrary content is RM.

The email said that Getty is closing Photolibrary and that Zoonar's Photolibrary collection are going to TS, Photos.com and Jupiter. Nothing in the email says it's limited to RF only. I've seen nothing from Photolibrary itself as to where images will be going within the Getty structure.

Note: I fixed the title to be more clear. OK I tried to modify the title but it didn't take.

We need an easy way to opt out.

It's relatively easy.
You can remove a partner in your management section (or whatever that is called on the English version of the site) per indvidual image, but that works as well if you mark any number of images. So to opt out all of your portfolio you can set it to 100 images per site and then remove photolibrary for all those 100 with a few clicks. In a German forum Michael Krabs offered help for those with bigger portfolios, just shoot them an e-mail.

Problem solved, I just checked and I didn't opt in to Photolibrary in the first place :)
