Next Monday's Paypal payouts were scheduled to go out Friday, due to the holiday.  I just received mine two days early.

I know they've done a lot wrong lately, but I gotta say I appreciate this one. :)

Actually, tomorrow (the 23rd).  Still, nice to get it before the closure.

They were a day early - doesn't entirely wash out the 5 days late from October, but if they can do 4 more payments a day early, we'll call it even :)

Guess the folks at HQ are trying to head out the door early tomorrow for their week-long vacation.

Yeah, not much to do with being generous to folks who need the money for Christmas; everything to do with getting out of there on time for their vacation.

Exactly. Same folk that are going to cut my income by 10% in a few days time. Seems that them getting 80% and me getting 20% just wasn't enough for them. From my next payment it's going to be 82% to them against 18% to me.

There is absolutely no reason whatso-f**king-ever to give them credit or 'kudos' of any kind. They are a bunch of greedy, exploitive corporate f**k-pigs who are reaming you for every cent they think they can get away with.

I can scarcely believe that you kow-tow, thank and applaud them for paying your measly sum a few days 'early', even though they actually had all of the customers' money weeks or months ago anyway. It is positively embarrassing when I see microstockers yielding and spreading their cheeks so cheaply. Pathetic.
Nicely said.  We're supposed to be grateful that we get paid when an absolute shafting is just around the corner?
When I read the thread about the EL bonus I could hardly believe what I was reading, everybody seemed so thankful as if they'd been given something that wasn't theirs to start with - "Wow...that's even better than 100% Royalty day."  My boss used to say never underestimate people's stupidity...I think he had a point.

You'll be removing all your work from the site presumably, as they're so awful?

Impaler,
Gostwyck is a very successful contributor. He makes a lot of money with IStock. Most probably a lot more than you do, keep in mind he's an independent. It's difficult for him to delete his port right away.
Not to worry though!
He can't do it, but I can! I'm deleting my images as we speak.

Hope your day is brighter now and you feel a bit better ... :)

What, you've never worked for someone you didn't like? Or have you been fortunate enough to only ever work for the highest caliber employers and clients and never took a job from someone you didn't like?

Kind of the point I was hoping would come out of this discussion. HQ shuts down for a week-long vacation while in another week we all get a pay cut. Doesn't make much sense.

Actually, yes, it does make sense. If you are like me and believe the whole "unsustainable" thing to be utter B.S. As far as I know, nothing has been cut at HQ despite the current dire financial situation istock expects us to believe they are in. No pay cuts, no benefits cuts, no vacation cuts, and I'm sure that masseuse is still hanging around the office.

I don't wish a pay cut or job benefits cut on anyone. But it is a bit of a stinger that we're going to lose money while the folks at HQ get to keep all of their income and perks, and then go on holiday for a week. Which, as far as I know, is a perk that very few companies still offer anymore anyway. Not even financially stable companies. I've never worked for a company that closes for Christmas, nor do I personally know of anyone who is off all of next week.

Well many print and design related companies here in Aberdeen Scotland are off from today or tomorrow until January 5th!

I'm guessing this is why there's a big sales slump over the next two weeks.
(general holidays, not Aberdeen holidays!)

I've worked for so many companies over a few decades now - having spent about 8 of those years in contract work, and they only ever closed for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.  In my very early days, I worked in retail, and had to work on Boxing Day too.

I've never even heard of a company closing for a week in England.

My sister works for General Motors and they are closed for a week or two. But I don't know if that is a paid holiday. Likely not for her, she's a worker bee on the line. But I'm guessing for management it is.

I can't wait for the next big announcement proclaiming iStock is raking in more and more millions and that the price increases on Vetta and the new Agency collection have been successful beyond their wildest dreams (right before they announce they are raising the prices on the regular collection). You know it's coming. That ought to go over real well, things being so unsustainable and all.

Not sure how a post appreciating getting paid out early managed to get turned into wholesale a$$ cheek spreading?  ;)

Since I am one of the people relieved to have this one less thing to worry about at Istock, I guess I will respond:  If I am going to bitch about things I don't like (and there has been plenty lately at IS, so I've been bitching ALOT), I also am willing to praise things I do like - such as getting paid on time.  You know, the stick AND carrot approach.  Maybe it's just looking for some silver lining in this massive black hurricane cloud?

Can't speak for the OP, but I certainly hope that doesn't make me a brown-nosing apologist?   ???

When I worked at Animation, we took, or were told, to take the week between the holidays off, as the studio would be pretty much shut down, but it wasn't paid, and we were supposed to use some of our leave.  Occasionally I went in to save on my time off days.  However, working in Attractions, you always had to work and were lucky to get off on a holiday.  Tourists don't take a break, ya know! :)

Here in Silicon Valley, it's not that uncommon to shut down between Christmas & New Year.  It's also not generally a sign of good health.  My current employer is doing it, requiring most employees to use vacation days to fill in around and between the holidays.  It lets them decrease their financial obligations and cut utility expenses during a period when not much would be accomplished.  So I wouldn't take it as a sign that iStock is doing all that well, unless of course this is an extra week of vacation time.  Had that happen at one company, but that was back in the 90s when tech was growing and prospering.
