Title: qHero terms and disambiguation
Post by: IMD photo on September 07, 2018, 15:22
Hi, I am new to this forum (but not to micro stock in general). I have about 1500+ files online across the top sites (increasing daily) and am beginning to see a decent return for the effort. I am therefore having a 'tidy up' of procedures etc. so have a few questions. Hopefully, once I get used to the forum, I'll be able to join in to help others :)

Today I stumbled upon the 'stats' facility on qHero and downloaded/uploaded from istock. It was enlightening because I've actually earned more from istock than I thought (I have previously just taken my micro stock income from my paypal account as a whole ... but it's now reaching a level whereby I need to break things down more efficiently). Anyway, the stats were useful.

So, my main bug with qhero has been in the disambiguation of keywords. In every batch there are always words that need disambiguation but without relevant terms being provided (even with 'more' expanded). At the top of the panel there is the warning that keywords without disambiguation will not be submitted. That has left me with the option of ticking terms that really aren't relevant or not having the (often important) keyword submitted at all. What is the procedure here? Is there something I'm missing?

Also, the keywords (and phrases) that appear in red/pink have no options for disambiguation at all. Are they not submitted? Sometimes words that should be commonplace are simply not recognised, and, again, they are often important.

Any help greatly appreciated. And, as I say, I am new to the forum here. This is my first post so I apologise if its in the wrong place etc. (I did search for qHero but couldn't find any relevant posts). Any general forum advice will also be taken onboard.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ian

Is it just me with this problem? Perhaps the question is in the wrong place?

Your question is in the right place; maybe no-one is using qHero (?)
If you don't get an answer here, you could try the iStock forums. In the 'Tools and Apps' forum, there's a sticky thread about QHero.
I suspect your real problem isn't QHero, but getting your head round Getty's Controlled Vocabulary, in which case you should check their sticky 'iStock keywords guide' thread in the 'iStock Help' forum.

Personally, iStock has never been much of an income generator.  As such, I stopped bothering with disambiguation at the start of this year.

My stuff has all keywords set in ShutterStock (my main income producer). Other agencies get what SS provided. If they don't like it, tough luck.  It is not worth the effort to go through their games for each image, knowing I will be making about $1/hr for my efforts...

SS, on the other hand, has proven worth the effort for me, so it gets it.

On the Qhero site there is Help. Ask the guy. He is helpful.
