Title: Questions about Uploading
Post by: Kngkyle on March 08, 2007, 07:07
I just recently signed up to Istockphoto and my god uploading is a pain in the ass.
Lately on Shutterstock I would use all 50 or close to all 50 keywords. Copying and pasting those into Istockphoto then going through them all takes a couple minutes which really adds up. Then selecting the categories is another major pain in the ass.
What is your method for getting this done quickly, or should I say quicker.

I use the imagemanager. Still takes the same time though.

note that istock is stricker on keywords aswell so I delete a lot as I go through.

Don't you embed the keywords into your image as EXIF data?  that would automatically put your keywords & description into iStock, then you just have to do catagories

Yeah ... if somebody finds a quicker method, please, please do tell. But I don't know of one.

The only trick I know of to make it a little quicker is to enter the keywords as IPTC data when you're processing the image - e.g. in Photoshop.

Other than that ... uploading to IS is a right royal pain in the butt. I think they do it deliberately.

And it kills me, every time I've uploaded there's this stupid image of a person holding some sort of radio aerial saying "I love uploading".

I HATE uploading to IS. If it wasn't one of my good earners I'd be out like a shot.

I upload only 3 per day, and try to keep the images related so that I can copy keywords and categories - apart from that, there's nothing that I can think of that eases the IS uploading pain.

I can't understand why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt!  :-\

How long is the review time usually?

How long is the review time usually?

Usually around 5-10 days.  But thet started posting a length on the home page for the photo that has been in the queue the longest (which is currently at 6 days).

Suddenly this week I've noticed a sharp reduction in approval times for IS.  Also, their waiting list has gone down from nearly 30,000 photos to only 21,000.

At the same time the approval process for DT has lengthened considerably, and DT are announcing near record upload numbers.

Perhaps this is just coincidence, but it seems to coincide with the price increases and higher commissions at DT.

My last two downloads at DT have paid $1.50 and $1.00 which is very competitive.

With the complex uploading procedure at IS and now higher prices/commissions elsewhere, does anyone get the impression that people are flocking/preferring to go elsewhere?
