I received this from a friend of mine who is a top tier graphic artist. I didn't ask for this information. He wrote to me with this comment.

"BTW I forgot to mention that the new browsing user experience on iStock is a shocker!!! I dislike it so much Id switch services just because of that. You cant browse anymore without big popover thumbnails in the way even when you do want to see the popover I mostly get the wrong image showing up. Horrible!!!"

I've posted it here hoping that istock gets the message.

They won't get the message.  They know more than us, they know that asking the customer will force them to do a 180 from their current technology strategy.

There have been several buyer initiated threads on this, the most recent of which is here:
http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=357988&page=1
Probably, a lot of buyers don't know you can turn it off in display options.

Nov 20th: "The Loupe feature is something we are working on right now. As soon as have news on it I will make sure to let everyone know."
http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=357602&messageid=6959146

Also Nov 20th: "The Loupe is horrible. There is no debating it. We have a temporary solution coming in the immediate future and a fix to the monstrosity coming in two weeks. [1]
The immediate solution is to initiate a 1 second delay on the trigger of the loupe. It's not entirely perfect, but it should alleviate some of the inconvenience the current loupe is causing.
Secondly, we have UX working on a redesign that will be implemented in the next few weeks.
Soooo, we are at a point where this is most certainly a priority.
Your concern and commentary on the nature of the loupe has been appreciated and instrumental in in our review of the feature. We'd like to thank you all for providing your opinions and feedback."

http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=357602&messageid=6959372

[1] So that would be today.

Why they didn't just disable it, instead of leaving something which they officially admit is 'horrible' is as telling a question as why they don't fully test the functionality of new features before pushing them live.

Did anyone notice the 'temporary solution'? If anything it's even worse currently.

I doubt anyone from iStock besides Lobo looks at this forum, even many of the exclusives that used to be on here aren't anymore.  If you want to them to change anything there are threads open on iStock or you could sitemail an admin or contact contributor relations.
I thought you were istock.

Looks better than it was before to me, what are you seeing?

I've got it disabled, but before that, I wa getting exactly what this buyer is getting:
"Every time a page loads, if my mouse even comes near an image, I'm stuck looking at it and have to click another one to make it go away. Then I am stuck in the game of trying to keep my mouse away from the images I don't want to view more info about."

If he's a buyer, it would be better if he'd contact iS directly pointing out that it's so bad they should disable it by default.
But I'm not sure that they care for the views of buyers much more than those of contributors.

Most people don't complain. He mentioned it to me as he knows that I'm producing for iS.

Sorry to disappoint just an exclusive contributor.  Like I said, I doubt anyone from there pays attention to what's going on here.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. (wink,wink)

Did you tell him how to disable it?
No. I told him how the backend is all stuffed as well.

No. I told him how the backend is all stuffed as well.
That doesn't seem very helpful.
You're right. I think I need to do something else.

Not very helpful if they have a pile of iS credits.
Of course, iS shouldn't force you to have to show him how to disable a stupid feature, but there you have it.

Looks to me like there is a delay on it now so it usually comes up only if you hover over an image for a second.
Can't see how that's any improvement. I still have to work against my muscle memory to avoid it after a second. It still is as likely as not to bring up the wrong file, and it's still d*mn difficult to get rid of it. Best just to keep it disabled until they get a real fix, or at least disabled by default.

Lobo, Nov 20th: "The Loupe is horrible. There is no debating it. We have a temporary solution coming in the immediate future and a fix to the monstrosity coming in two weeks. [1]."
http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=357602&messageid=6959372
[1] So that would be today.

But of course it wasn't yesterday, or today, and the update is:
"Let it be known we are aware of the inadequacies of the current loupe. We have added the ability for clients to disable the loupe feature, increased the delay of the mouse over function and will endeavor to have a newly designed loupe in place [/]in the ensuing weeks.[/b]"
http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=357988&messageid=6964918
I hope the buyers know they can turn it off.

"We appreciate the feedback and are most definitely taking steps to address the concerns of the community."
But we're not going to break into sweat doing it.

incredible that it has taken so long to fix a site-crippling 'feature' ...

timely, professional, customer-oriented, proactive, competent, responsive, - the list just goes on (of words that do NOT apply to iStock's lame-brained handling of a revenue-killing 'enhancement'.

Words don't fail me... but I will spare you any more...

All together now - 'Woo-Yeah!'  :(
