Title: staccato ebbs and flows
Post by: alias on June 18, 2009, 11:39
Is it conceivable that there is something in the make up of the BM2 which results in dramatic sales swings ? Lately the abundance seems to be followed by nothingness. & vice versa. Previous it seemed maybe less staccato.

Or are we just imagining patterns where none exist ?

I have been observing exactly the same thing. I wondered if favorable search placement might be on some kind of rotation. I've had two weeks of the same day of the week that had always been above average now being very very bad.

But like you said, it could just be our overactive imaginations (which is why I've kept my theories to myself) ;)

I don't have a big portfolio at IS but it does did generate regular sales. Recently things have changed, I will get a really good day and then absolutely nothing for 2/3 days and then another good day and so on. Although earnings are about the same, but still only 50% of what they were 18 months ago.

There has been a 2-week swing for quite a while now, at least for me...and it's been going on since before BM2 was implemented.

I too have been noticing how erratic downloads seem.
Also, this month at least, I have had a rash of extra small purchases which is unusual for me.

Regardless, each month from this last January through May has been better than the previous month. June so far is trailing, so the trend may not continue.

I think it is just ebb and flow. With a portfolio of close to 4000 images I am seeing a fairly consistent level of downloads and commissions. Weekends are obviously only about 20% of weekdays.

Yup, I have a small portfolio, but I see a lot of swings. I have had days with several downloads followed by several days of nothing. Some of my 'older' images are selling, but my 'steady big sellers' are not. Overall my June is down from May.
