Although it was my plan when I started microstock in 2009 I have no intention to become IS exclusive. But I clicked the "Become Exclusive" to see what they had to say nowadays and noticed my downloads had been set to 0 and I don't qualify.

I wonder if it's just another site bug or perhaps because they don't want new exclusives anymore.

How very interesting! I started Microstock Jan 2012 and also planned to go exclusive with iStock. Like you I have absolutely no intention of even considering iStock exclusivity given the current state of things.

I just tried clicking on the "become exclusive" button and my downloads too have been set at '0' meaning that I couldn't opt for exclusivity either. How strange?

Maybe someone who can should post on the Help forum there, maybe the bugs thread to see if it's a bug or intentional.

A bug? At Istock? Surely not.

I just did ask.

Apparently for some time you have had to contact support in order to become exclusive. It's no longer an automated click-and-join programme.

To give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they got a lot of automated applications that weren't valid and want to discuss it first (but they could have said "contact support" rather than that you don't qualify).

Hmmm. Kelvin says it's an on-off bug.

It's a bug. I was going exclusive for audio and the answer was, keep trying. Just about every day I went and looked. One day it was working, and I was in.

It comes and goes, and has been that way for months.

Maybe it's one of those weird tests to gauge your level of commitment. :P "If you're willing to accept our buggy application, you'd be willing to accept so much more!"
