Just as I made Bronze level over the weekend, Summer slowdown is in full effect today. Bummer.

Judging by the 500 DL that I achieved so far I probably will heed Sharply's advice and start to specialize. My best sellers are mostly research technology related so that is what I will be sticking with for new pictures.

I hope the slow down does not negatively impact the long term earning potential of newly accepted pictures.

I don't believe it's totally summer slowdown. I wanted to believe this but as each week has passed and I've watched my sales drop to half of what they were before the new best match I've changed my mind.

My sales continue on SS at a rate that would be compatible with summer slowdown i.e. not totally stopped. I have days at IS now with no downloads at all something that hasn't happened to me in a very long time. I continue to upload and what you will see when looking at the first few pages of my portfolio are 0 downloads. It's so awful I try not to look more than once a day. For awhile it effected me so badly I thought about giving up.

Actually, the summer slowdown just passed; every year the worst week for page views and sales in the summer is the week of July 4th.  The next worst week is at the end of August/beginning of September (is there another US public holiday around that time?).

Historical evidence suggests that apart from that august/september dip, sales and page views should now start rising towards a peak at Christmas and then a further peak in March/April/May.

Of course it might be different at IS; they appear to have implemented a dramatic change in best match which has affected new images, new contributors and small portfolios.  My guess is that while they are * about with new search bar, new categories etc they have changed the best match to favour exclusives and long standing contributors at the expense of newbies and new images.  It does appear to be a cruel move to implement such a significant best match change without warning, although if I am right in my assumption one must applaud an agency's commitment to ensure good results for its dedicated followers during times of change.

There are three major U.S. summer holidays: Memorial Day (the last Monday in May), Independence Day (July 4th), and Labor Day (the 1st Monday in September).

Even though the Summer technically starts with Summer Solstice on June 20th or 21st, Memorial Day is the holiday that everyone typically the summer with.
