Hi guys...  I know I started playing in Microstock as bit of a social experiment and for the most part, I enjoy it.  Really do get some great laughs and try hard not to take it too seriously ( the rejections that is!) ...  but this one has me stumped.

I'm OK with the artifacting rejections with are terribly inconsistent, but in the middle of a submission I got a few images rejected for ...  and I quote
" We regret to inform you that we cannot accept your submission, entitled Racing_03 ( http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/4611251/2/istockphoto_4611251_racing_03.jpg) for addition to the iStockphoto library for the following reasons:

Please refrain from personal naming or number systems when titling your file. This affects the quality of search results and should be removed for future uploads.

Example 'A Five Pencils' or '1 Five Red Pencils'
Example 'A1, A, AAA, 1A, etc.'

If you require further explanation regarding this rejection, please forward this message and your questions to Client Relations ([email protected])"

Now every image I have online is numbered...  simple as that.  Most are part of a bigger submissions and to date (including today!), ISP has a never had an issue.

Just for fun...  I thought I'd give you all something else to worry about when submitting.

Good luck I say.

Cheers,  JC

yeah i have heard that before actually - that they don't want series images numbered....

but why they didn't stop you before.. i dunno  ??? Perhaps a reviewer following old rules, or new rules, or no rules  :)

edit:  just took a look at your portfolio - wow, you DO have your images quite thoroughly numbered :)

;D yeah, bad habits in this business die hard!  Even if I use some images solely for microstock..they still need to fit into a bigger filing system .. thus some numbering has to be done.

Why this hasn't been pointed out before baffles me....   and just for fun, the same reviewer accepted numbered images at the same time.   Now they're just messing with me head!! :o

cheers.

Just goes to illustrate one of my pet-peaves.  I wish we could keep record our own file system, but once our photos are adopted into databases they lose our unique coding.  It would be so much easier for contributors if they remembered own numbering system under our private user preferences.

All my images are numbered , and its my way of tracking things ( something I think makes my life easier ) and I submit them like that to all the sites.

The number is only before the name of the image , but not in the Image title in IPTC data , so it does not show in the image name when someone search my images.

I never had problems  that way.

And you know that it was the same reviewer how? As I understand it, IS uses a system where the reviews request images and get them in in batches of 20 or so from the queue. They then review them. If they don't review all of them the ones they don't review get returned to the queue. It is very possible that the one that was rejected went to a different reviewer. There is no way to know.

How do you get to see the original file name on IS? I thought they were stripped out.

(Worried, because I use a system of sequential numbering on my images too.)

He uses a numbering system in the iptc data for 'image name'

I use a numbering system for the file name (probably everyone does), but not the image name in the iptc data.

Ah ... right ... okay. Thanks for that reassurance. I thought for a moment my classification system was going to come crashing down in a heap.

Yingyang... easy.  you submit 20 images and the acceptance/decline notices come back to you in batches of 3 - 5 at a time over 48 hrs.... and to add to the fun.  Here's one just in ..  check the file name!!

I noticed that Ron Chapple puts a unique number in his keywords.  LOL, if you have 12,000+ ms photos you have to keep them straight somehow!

I almost always use numbering in title in a sequence of photos.  I don't remember having problems with that in IS, but BigStock use to strip the sequential number.  They've been accepting this however.

Regards,
Adelaide
