Hi, now with all the Creative Networking going on IS in the last day, I got an idea. Usually most of us have images which are great, often much better than those with lots of dls, but themselves have no dls and almost not a lot of views. Often the reason is, that these images just get buried under thousends of other images, and the people who are searching for these images have allmost no chance of finding them. I think that is one reason why istock came up with the rating. However if people do not see this images how should they get good ratings. So the thought came to my mind, that we post an image we think is totally neglected. And the people of this forum can decide if they want to rate it on Istock. What do you think of this?
It would also be nice to know how that will increase the dls. So people who will post an image should give feedback how well it sold after the rating.
Who wants to be the first? :)

why dont you host a lightbox.  set some loose rules.  no more than 10DL?? and less than 5?? ratings.  We can send you links and you can add them.  We can then go look at the photos all in one place and rate if we think they are worthy.  they then drop out of the light box after 6 months (not sure if this statistic is avaliable though?.

NOt so much a lightbox to get sales but one to showcase forgot photos in the hope that someone thinks they are worthy or a rating.

Thats a good idea CJPhoto. I think I will do this. however as far as I know in the beginning I need at least 20 images to go public. If you have keyword ideas for the lightbox, I would be happy.
Do you know if there is a possibility if more than one person can manage a lightbox? I do not know if I allways have time to look after it..
I will take your advice regarding the rules.
I will set up the following rules:
To be accepted the image should have no more than 10Dls, less than 5 ratings. When the image reaches 50 Dls sooner or later, depends how much time I have, it will be removed. Should I accept every image according to the choice of the people who send me the links?
The reason I ask, I think I will not allways agree that the images people think are neglected are really neglected. I do not want people to get mad at me, like they do at the reviewers (the poor guys :))
Any comments regarding the rules or about this idea?

When you manage the lightbox, it ways:

"To allow other members to administrate a lightbox, click the number under the admin column, and search for the member you wish to add."

I'll help...

Thankyou Opla :) I found it, so who wants to volunteer? Maybe someone with good English experience (to correct my description of the lightbox, I am German) and who has some experience in photography (who knows if an image is really neglected).

I think the image should have been online for an amount of time.

I think the image should have been online for an amount of time.

This is where it gets a little tricky.

For an image to be truly "neglected", I would agree that it should be online a while.

But the Best Match sort algorithm places newer images at the front.

So if your image is neglected and you wait too long, no amount of 5s might be able to resurrect it.

Anyhow, what is your suggestion for the amount of time?

It is tricky, that's why I didn't include a suggestion  ;)
Let's say 1 month?

This one of Nelson's Column has no ratings and zero downloads.

I can help with the lightbox, if you need another person.

How many images can an artist submit?

Well lets say, 3 max in the beginning. That is not much, but lets remember they really should be neglected and should be good images. That should be a good lightbox, if the lightbox quality is bad than it wont work as well, I think. Also lets say if one of us has doubts wether to accept an image he should ask another admin who manages the lightbox.
Lets say the image should be older than a mont with in the average not more than 2dls a month an one rating a month. The maximum should be 10dls and 5 ratings. Images will be removed after they reach 50dls.
Is that ok? I think we can start with this. We might change the rules whenever we think they are not good enough. Please do not be mad with us, if we do not accept every image..
You can send as your image links via sitemail. So we will try to stick roughly to it.  "Loose rules" as CJPhoto proposed

maybe those who are in charge of the lighgbox say 5 people need to agree that the photo should be added in? Majority wins or if say 1 person dont like the photo, it wont be added in the lightbox? Dont know, just throwing in a spanner

this sounds like a good idea guys.  Let me know if i can help anyway.

I could set up a board here that only the admin's for the lightbox could see for example if that would help (so they could discuss photos or something)

now, off to find some forgotten photos. :)

leaf, I have already added 3 of your photos, I have preferred those with low downloads. Do you think is better to publicize photos which already download?

no, not neccesarily.   I just picked three that weren't that old and had under 10 downloads..  The ones you picked were fine as well, thanks.

One thing I don't understand: we're having a lightbox of mixed subjects?

it sounds like it.  A light box can be anything so why not?

A lightbox of 'missed images' is just a fair as a lightbox of another subject.

Dreamstime has a 'missed images' section on their front page for example.

No, not really.  The subject is "neglected images".

They are all in, feel free to rate them :) If everyone who contributes images rates other images of the lightbox he/she thinks they are worthy to be rated 5, it will be good for everyone.
Currently there are 50 images in the lightbox.
 Good night!

Thank you Freezingpic, Snem, and Geopappas for taking the time to build this lightbox, and also thank you to all the photographers who are taking the time to put the 5 stars for the pics they like.  Very well appreciated.

Here is the direct link for the lightbox:

I had to go to IE to see the lightbox. For some reason, NS now aborts when I load any IS page.

Some great shots there.  It's a pleasure to give ratings.

Hi Admart,

I picked two of them, because the last one has still over a week to go before it is older than a month. Thats what we decided on, when images should be considered neglected.. I will try to remember and add it in 10 days or so..

Does anyone knows how much views you have to have to get a rank in the most popular lightboxes? I though that might be possible, because so many people are looking at it. Currently we have 377 views and 67 files :-)

Hi Guys and Gals,

Just delurked but Coldimages already added my 3 images but I have not figured out a way to easily keep track of specific lightboxes on IS - bookmarking? or do I have to create individual bookmarks in my browser?

Hi GeoPappas I found your tag on the map and I am in Chapel Hill:)

Thanks and oops (that's what I get for doing a partial read-through)

Like the notion of the lightbox and will keep checking as the new images from others are added.  Also appreciate the invite on the CN.  I see I'm not the only one who as more than one name -- don't know why I do that   :D

Does anyone got some dls of their neglected images? I got one, but I do not know if that was because of the rating or the lightbox.

I was wondering the same thing, but I think it is too early for any conclusions.  I was going to give it at least a month.

I have gotten two total downloads for two photos (one download each), but they don't seem to be out of the norm for those photos.

I did an experiment with a colleague at IS last month, each of us picked 10 images for the other to rate.  In my case, I picked non-selling images of series that had sold.  So far 3 of the 10 sold, but I can't say it's conclusive.

I believe none of the images I chose for the Neglected Images Lightbox sold recently.

Regards,
Adelaide
