Silly question no doubt guys, but noticing some iStock ports seem to have raster versions of vectors for sale (without having the vector online).

Does iStock accept uploading raster illustrations through the "Photos" upload route? Is it like SS, where you can have both raster and vector versions available as separate files?

Thanks

Have you tried asking this on the IS forum, I would also like to know the answer.

1. Yes.
2.I doubt it (illutrators have to include a jpeg preview with a vector)
"Vector submissions consist of 1 vector EPS file (Adobe Illustrator 8-compatible), and a separate RGB JPEG preview of your illustration, sized to 1900 x 2800 pixels (minimum). "

When they split exclusivity by file type, they made a proclamation that you couldn't upload raster versions of your vector files. I thought at the time that if they are going to define raster illustrations (e.g., watercolors) and 3D renders as "photos," then prohibiting rasterized vectors was just arbitrary. And it is. I have seen rasterized vectors that contain type, which is prohibited in vectors but not in "photos." So the person just uploaded the rasterized version and put a note in the file description to contact him if they wanted the vector.

I have heard of some people getting a "photo" rejection that says "please upload this as a vector" or something like that. You could maybe get around it if you said that the effects in your vector were not compatible with EPS 10. I don't think the right hand knows what the left hand is doing at iStock, and I don't think this arbitrary rule is listed anywhere in the manual(s), so it's worth a shot.

Thanks, seems strange that there is confusion over this. Surely iStock would benefit by making this clear for all?

Guess I will give it a go and see what happens. Thanks again

It's not their way. Obfuscate the guidelines and leave contributors to debate it among themselves is their way. Add spice by different CR people giving opposing answers to the same question. Have admins make posts that are only opinion, not actual policy, but don't make that clear. Leave contributors to simmer in confusion. Change the invisible goalposts next month, or sometime in the future.

I think this maybe to do with the controversy when they were thinking about allowing rasterized versions of vectors to sell from the same page (you had the option of buying a jpeg in various sizes or the vector when you were on the image page). A lot of contributors were up in arms about it saying they would lose money because they would be getting more lower value sales and less vector sales.
I guess maybe that is why there is no concrete policy in place? It could be a good solution for them to allow duplicate uploads (one raster one vector) that way a contributor can decide if they want to take part.
