Does anyone here do video footage?

Is so, iStock have just launched their video footage site. Have a look here

I think Shutterstock is the only other site doing it. See here

it will be interesting to see if it takes off.

I have heard of a few downloads from the shutterstock site, but not much more than that. I am still eager to get into that, but not having a video camera slows things down a bit

Been thinking about it as i have hours of footage of London and Scotland sadly the really cool stuff of Alaska, Switzerland and NZ was taken on a much smaller camera so not up to standard - ( the story of my life)

I think i will try my luck with SS first.

I wonder how cumbersome the iStock uploader will be? They will probably want something shot on stedicam on a track.

FTPed last nine clips of the Isle of Arran to Shutterstock I hope they accept mpegs as Pinnacle studio doesn't give as many save options as I would like.

As its a beta site I don't think there have been many sales so far.

iStock seem to have a more complex system in terms of describing your film but want it in Quicktime MPEG4.

SS offer 30% of the sale but iStock offer 20% though if I ever reach 500 dl I think I will get 25% I think iStock have a broader range of prices that may generate more sales.

Anyway I will let you know how I get on, I may have to start carrying my video camera everywhere (20th century but it still works they don't build em like they used to)

Just realized I could sneak into the most senior snr member with one more post so an update on my shutterstock film clip submissions they are still in the bloody queue.

Unfortunately very badly timed I submitted just as they started accepting DVDs and CDs so no doubt every closet Spielberg posted lots of clips.

Supposed 263 clips added this week (3,400 clips online), a pity they can't express review your first batch to see if you are up to standard as I have plenty of footage and numerous opprtunities to make more.

I have clips at both sites, I do backgrounds and animation, I hope it takes off as the payout is much better and I really enjoy doing it. I would prefer the structure of SS but IS seems to have a better marketing advantage.

How long is the review queue for footage?

I heard the computer generated/tweaked footage is more marketable than raw footage - is this correct?

The Q at SS takes a while! I have ten clips sitting there. Yes computer rendered backgrounds and animation sell the best. You are not shooting a movie just a filler most people have the footage they need but backgrounds for titles they do not want to take the time to make. I am working on a short cartoon series with good humor and taste. All silent except for some sound effects. Hope it works. IS gets my clips reviewed in about 4 days.

None yet but I started not long ago. I only have 4 clips at SS for the moment and as soon as I get the 10 waiting approved I will post a link to my clips. IS has not opened yet so I am trying to get as many as possible uploaded there so I can have a good start! I know one guy who has sold 2 on SS one was for $99.00 and it was a computer graphic.

iStock as usual is being ridiculous on the pricing. $5 for small video which would cost at least $39 at Shutterstock. Really, honestly: can ANYONE be tempted by a $1 download for a video?

Well iStock want QT MPEG4 if I understnad it right so they can **** off.

I am hoping that SS won't be too picky at first to build up a decent portfolio only person uploading for scotland at the moment (well apart from two flags) which is nice.

It would be nice if the movie folk would have a united front and boycott iStock's movie submissiosn until they have a realistic price structure.

jjneff some nice animations like the worm hole effect - any plans of beefing that up so more 2001 or Bill and Ted like?

you have some good ideas there. I really liked the hands typing one in green. I think it works well...

my only critique.
the hands typing in green, although being a nice concept, it seems obvious that the fingers are mashing the keyboard as apposed to typing on it.

well i agree with you, but that is also probably what the macro stock people said when people eagerly joined the micros.

For any of you guys with a video camera and are thinking of making some footage use a tripod. My first batches were accepted virtually 100% at SS but then the later batches about 95% rejected for shakiness/poor composition.
