When I upload with the form they have on their site, none of the fields on the next screen are filled in with the IPTC values I have in different fields? If I use prostockmaster to upload though it does fill them in? Why would the form by itself not read the IPTC tags, it makes no sense IS to be forcing the photogs to do extra work?

which tags?

I use idimager and keywords come through fine. but other software I have used puts different end of line characters in or puts each line in quotes so then multiple words come through as one word.

I've used several pieces of software to keyword and keywords, description, and title, almost never come through. I say almost because on a rare occasion, everything will come through fine.

I am facing the same problem when adding IPTC data to .jpg file in Irfanview.  IStock just dont read it. When data is added to file in PS it comes through correctly.

I've never had a single with IS reading keywords. I add keywords in adobe bridge in the raw files. Open photo with PS, and do any editing, then save as a jpg. The keywords are transfered perfectly and IS has never had a problem reading them.

If I add keywords before I make any changes in photoshop then save to jpeg after I finished I never lose the data. If I try to add keywords after my post work is done than I run into problems with IS.

I use irfanview for all IPTC tags.. granted they use some uncommon names for some of the tags (like the Title is Object Name on the third tab), but ALL the other sites read them fine, only istock doesn't...

I might try photoshop or lighroom for adding tags, but irfanview is so much more convinient..

Ammendment to earlier statement - agree with yingyang. I just uploaded my first image at IS from Bridge and it works fine. I started using Bridge months ago, but I'm so far behind uploading at IS that I just caught up with those.

I use Exifer and often some extra edit in Irfanview.  IS only reads my description.

I have reported it to them twice, they said they were aware of the problem, but never solved it.

A similar problem occurs in SnapVillage: title and description upload, but only the first keyword is read.  They said they're looking into it (over 2 months now).

All other sites read my IPTC data well.

Adelaide

there is an IPTC/irfanview question on the istock forum and it is receiving the cold shoulder treatment : http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=65697&page=1 :)

I've tried at least 4 tools and none of them worked with iStock. All of them worked with all other sites supporting IPTC like SS, DT, FT, StockXpert. None of them was Photoshop or Lightroom. All of them were free tools as my photo editing is entirely based on free tools.

I use XnView and it doesn't work either, not a single field. Gimmestock isn't picking up descriptions and Fotolia puts descriptions in the title...

It seems that not only istock doesn't care about this quite inconvenient problem, but the users on their forums don't even want to say anything about it out of fear not to be perceived as negative by istock?

I've gotten irfanview and Photoshop embedded keywords to read just fine on iStock through their web uploader.  If some don't ever go through, I search my Featurepics portfolio for the specific photo (since they accept everything I give them) and copy/paste everything over again.

from the threads on istock it seems that istock forces you to leave some EXIF data in the image in order for the IPTC data to be read. I believe many people would rather not leave any EXIF information in the image at all..

Yeah that's why the Sowjet Union collapsed. No I'm kidding. You can say anything you want on the IS forum, anything ;D
