Hi everyone, I am a buyer and seller at iStock. I personally don't know what I will do after this change occurs, but I want to know where we can find your images if you leave iStock. I work at a company that buys around $10,000+ iStock images a year and we select them months in advance. If we suddenly find an image missing on their site, what other sites will have them? Thanks!

Check out my links below. I can also be found on SS, DT, BigStock, Veer and StockFresh.

You could take a look at Shutterstock, Fotolia, Dreamstime, Veer and Stockfresh - Stockfresh is very new but growing and many of us feel some loyalty to the owners as they used to run the much-loved StockXpert before Getty took it over.  They have a firm policy of fair commissions for artists.

If you buy travel images all my new ones will be going on Alamy as RM.  If the change goes forward on Jan. 1, 2011 then my images will be found spread out with Alamy taking all of my previous IS travel pictures as RF.  Shutterstock and 123RF will have my other images.  I will still not be supporting DT or FT unless they change their policies.

Alamy.com host the worlds largest image collection with currently 20 million images, both RF and RM.

You will find many of the independent former istockers pictures there as well as a lot of other stuff.

Please don't speak for "many of the former istockers." Speak only for yourself.

Not what the thread is about. Re-read the OP. The question is where can they find YOUR port if you leave IS.

I did.  It seems to me that you are applying overly rigorous parameters that are not found in the OP.  He offered an answer to the question and additional information.  Perfectly acceptable on a public forum.

Acceptable to you, but, I never found out where Nordlys's photos might be found, should he/she leave istock.  :)

Hi there Kat,
thanks for taking the time to post here :)
(This is not about my images, I don't matter, you won't be looking for me. This is about Fair-Trade and respect for contributing artists).
Could you please give us a hand and have a look at the agencies that pay us a fairer commission? Whenever you can, from time to time ...
I would recommend supporting sites like Dreamstime, Veer, Shutterstock and possibly a new comer, by designers for designers, GraphicLeftovers (unfortunately no model releases there yet)?

They're easy to deal with, prices are fair, solid collections, top Customer Support and unlike Getty, they treat artists with more respect.
Give them a chance, if you can :) It can make a difference :)
Thank you!

Hmmm... yes... I've rather shot myself in the foot by preferring to be incognito here in this respect  :D

TBH, I'm too wary of copycats to publish who I am here (not among the much loved regulars of course... but you never know who is looking in).  Perhaps I'm too much of a scaredy cat, but for the time being, I prefer not to say.

I have referral links at the bottom of my post.  My images can be found there, and I sincerely hope you try out some of these other excellent sites, whether you use my links or not.  You will be surprised at the quality and scope of the collections at places like Fotolia, Dreamstime, and Shutterstock.

I am also on Alamy, but I am hesitant to refer microstock buyers there.  Alamy is a great site to sell on.  Awesome customer service, and a few sales a month will add up to more than you can make on some of the lower end micros.

However, a buyer that is used to paying $1 - $20 for an image in micro is not likely to want to pay a few hundred at Alamy instead.  For that reason I am mostly directing micro buyers to the other micro sites.

No problem then.

The company I work for has already purchased thousands of credits before this announcement, so we have to use them up. We purchase at other sites as well so we don't get all our images from iStock, but we do get a lot of them there. I have started looking at other sites for images for the second half of the project because I suspect what we have so far will use up the credits by the end of the year.

Kat, I hope you won't mind if I copy this info into the "buyers bail" thread.  This is exactly the type of info it is good to have in one place for easy reference.  :)
