That's me! Who'd have every thought I'd be an IS exclusive? (I know just audio, but it's funny)

IS Exclusive

I'm using a Zoom H4 the first model, because I record some on location sound effects. You don't need that.
Audacity (Free)

Here's one that has sold a few times, it's a Ferrari (which I couldn't say in the keywords) F1 car (which I can't say in the keywords)
 http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-audio-19114378-formula-car-passing-at-high-speed.php

Just added the following to make the inside studio better:

Terratec EWS88MT 10 channel input system (with Midi)
Guitar Tracks Pro3 by Cakewalk - 32 channels! Amazing, now I need to learn how to operate it.

It doesn't need to be complicated, I just happen to have years of band equipment, drums, a Moog, guitars, keyboards and I suppose I'll need a bass guitar again? Home studio analog recording equipment, stored away in the back, and should be doing something with it? Now I have my first digital recording studio on an old hand-me-down Dell, which I'm slowly removing everything else from the software, except Audio connections. It's going to be a digital audio recorder.

In case you are interested in trying audio on IS?

1 - Accepted Formats: .wav files for 2-track stereo or mono sources. (why do they have an "s" on formats? WAV is the only accepted format.)

2 - Bit Depth & Sample Rates: 16-bit and a sample rate of 48kHz or 44.1kHz. Do not encode your audio at any other sample rate or bit depth. 44.1 works fine.

3 - Audio File Length: The minimum length for an audio file is 5 seconds, maximum length 4-minute  for audio.

Someone could make recordings at home with any microphone and Audacity. It has some nice features for fade in and out, clipping excess, conversion and enhancements. Just passing this along in case someone else gets inspired and has a musical background. You can make some additional spare change with audio on IS?

Free Audio Editor that's very functional.  http://download.cnet.com/Audacity/3000-2170_4-10058117.html

What is the ROI on audio?

What is the ROI on audio?

Close to zero.  I still haven't paid off the little I put into it, 3 years later. 3? 4?

Probably an accurate surface analysis.

Audio is no better than video or photos. It's not cheap to get into (unless you record with Audacity and equipment you already have?) And there are more musicians than there are photographers, so the competition is just as deep or more extensive.

The reason I went exclusive was the 25% for a sale instead of 15%. I figured that one site that actually made sales was better than three or four that made none. Also I believe some of the audio sites have specific rules, if you sell on Microstock or the lower priced sites, don't bother applying.

If you have the skills and the equipment and the desire, there could be some future returns for having some fun.

How did you know it was my car? Darn, the whole poor homeless artist ruse is destroyed...  ;)

Yeah that guy sold the two Ferrari's that he owned, they were a pair, and he had mechanics come from Italy and GB to work on them for the race days. He now has a Benetton and something else for his Son to drive. Another F1 car. They are very nice people and enjoy their sport.

I'll add one more to Mr. Locke's comment.

Years ago there was a little used book store near me. I commented to the lady who ran it, how I'd love to do something like that. Her answer was (and this covers living off Micro for photos or audio or video... ) "Don't quit your day job"

I am in no way suggesting that someone can make a living at Micro Audio. Very few do enough business with photos or video, and there's a far better market for those. What I was pointing out is that IF you have some inclination/talent, the time and the equipment, it can be some additional entertainment and maybe make some income.

Just as if someone who was a real friend asked me about getting into MicroStock Photography, I'd say, NO. Not if you think you can earn a living doing it. The same holds for Video or Audio. Here's where everyone gets all defensive and points out "some people earn a living" Yeah, same as painters, musicians, writers, poets, comedians, actors, and anything else creative. Some People do make a living doing it, the other 98% just tread water or drowned.

If you like music, do it. Don't have unrealistic expectations. And if you make it, Bravo for you. Success is a nice thing to see.
