Well I've decided to take iStock up on the deal. I don't have time to be doing a lot of uploading, and iStock is pretty consistent unlike others where your photos are only downloaded when they're initially uploaded.

I agree with some of Travellers thoughts and others thoughts.

IMHO - iStock is worried about competition.  Fi they can get exclusives, they have a unique marketing point that the other sties dont have.  By having exclusives, they also weild some control - surey you can put out with 30 days notice but to uplaod all my photos to all the sites again would be a nightmare (more rejections due to increasing standards?).

So by having exlcusives, they have power of the buyers as well as the sellers.

Say NO to exclusive (unless it is want you want to do and you go in knowing what you are going into as I am sure out lawyer friend Yingyang is).

If I've been uploading to DT and Big Stock, I'm scr*wed to go exclusive to iStock anyway.

Don't you have to keep your pictures up on DT for 6 months and BS for 90 days? So if my last upload to DT was the end of May, I couldn't go exclusive with IS until November, right?

or is there a way out of this that I don't know about?

Thanks

yep, you're stuck. That's why I never uploaded to DT. Everyone thinks that "exclusive" is a bad deal, but I think being stuck in a contract for 6 months with DT  is much worse! I can quite being exclusive, and then re-up for exclusivity with iStock before anyone on DT can get out of their contracts. I'd rather be locked in with benefits, than just locked in.

That new Albumo site holds your images hostage for over a year (400 days!!)! By encouraging everyone to spam every forum they visit with their referral links, they have already turned me off big time. There are only so many ways to "subtly" drop in that link, and some people are getting really obnoxious about it. When I did visit the site to check it out, I made sure NOT to use a referral link! The whole payout structure seems like some kind of pyramid scheme anyway.

Albumo does that if you want their bonus.  Someone here asked and you can upload and then remove the photos as long as you don't accept their bonus payments.

As for spam referral links, I have seen them for lots of sites.  Why shouldn't we share referral links and make some extra money?  Having said that, nobody has ever joined a site through mine :)

That's not what their contract says.

"Albumo.com also reserves the right to reject any accepted Content at any time if Albumo.com finds it's defective, of poor quality or contravenes any right, and the right to deny any account for any reason including fraudulent downloads, obscene materials and materials that can be harmful to others. Member also forfeits the right to remove submitted and approved for sale Content for 400 days since the date of initial upload.  Albumo.com has sole right to remove such content if necessary.  After 400 days has passed, member can remove the Content at any time for any reason at all by request to our Support."

You forfeit the right to remove for 400 days, bonus or no bonus, exclusive or not exclusive.

No Limits - Unlimited uploads and 100% of sales

Just to do a little reality check ... The unlimited uploads for exclusives is only going to be over one weekend in the middle of the holiday period.

And I'll bet the 100% royalty day turns out to be on a weekend too   :D

I don't think anyone suggested otherwise.  ;) To be honest, it won't really benefit me at all since I never reach my upload limit anyway... and I think quite a few people might fall into that category. But I'm sure it will be a fun weekend to be around the site, and lots of chatter about who can upload the most. I pity the inspectors the following week.  ;D

I'm hoping that the 100% royalty day is during the week, but even if not, it's significantly more than I would have gotten otherwise. Lots of people are making comments about "probably will be a Sunday" and my hopeful side tells me that they want this to be an attractive event, not something that makes them appear like lame-o cheapskates, so they will be doing it during the week.  :D

I would expect the 100% day to be a week day - otherwise they will be seen as cheap!

Re uplaods, how will their system cope?  i assume that there are people who will choose to go exclusive and will use the opertunity to get their backlog up.
