In an effort to improve my workshops and make them events that offer the greatest value for the attending photographers dollar I am looking for photographer feedback from several different photography communities.

If you have a thought on the options offered below or thoughts on what would make the perfect workshop for you please share them here or send me an email. My email address is available in my profile here.

All who provide constructive feedback will be entered into a drawing and one respondent will receive a certificate allowing them to participate in there cohice of any one (1) two day workshop offered by VVS in the next 24 months.

So if you could custom order the perfect stock, beauty or glamour workshop experience what would be the key elements for you.

1. Ability to create unique content?
we already provide this in our glamour and beauty workshops

2. Group Size?

3. Model to photographer ratios of 1:2 or better?

4. Multiple Locations or studio environments?

5. Number of Days?

6. All inclusive pricing?

7. Guest Instructors who specialize in the field of the workshop theme?

8. Availability for personal instruction?

9. Weekday / Weekend schedule?

10. Availability to book private shoots with models before or after workshops with discounted studio rental rates?

11. Hard defined shooting structure or open encouragement of personal creativity?

12. Price point per day?

13. Other?

1. Ability to create unique content?

Top Priority

2. Group Size?

Definitely a consideration

3. Model to photographer ratios of 1:2 or better?

Goes along with group size and a major factor.

4. Multiple Locations or studio environments?

Would be nice, kinda goes with the ability to create unique content, no?

5. Number of Days?

I could only handle one.

6. All inclusive pricing?

That would be a plus

7. Guest Instructors who specialize in the field of the workshop theme?

Some might want this, I personally am not interested

8. Availability for personal instruction?

Same as above

9. Weekday / Weekend schedule?

Weekends are best

10. Availability to book private shoots with models before or after workshops with discounted studio rental rates?

Who doesn't like a discount?

11. Hard defined shooting structure or open encouragement of personal creativity?

I'm not much for other people's imposed structures. Hampers the creative flow.

12. Price point per day?

Not sure I understand this question.

13. Other?

Thanks Nosaya, so if I am reading you correctly what you would really prefer would be organized and lightly structured shootouts where you would have the opportunity to work with pro models in exceptional environments to create unique content that you could use for stock. That you actually have no desire for the instructional side of it and would prefer to just be able to come in and start shooting?

Point #12 is what would be the optimum cost per day for you for an opportunity such as you outlined?

1. Ability to create unique content?
I feel that is what the instruction would help many with. What is a unique shot that the buyers still need. Also I like location for the opportunity to make unique pix but that is only me, lots like the studio approach or haven't even had a chance to shoot in an environment like you offer.

2. group size:
relative to the support, the smaller the better for the one on one help and info.

3. Model to photographer ratios of 1:2 or better?
The more the better for me, Big groups do sell well but it really depends on the size of the class and the cost.

4. Multiple Locations or studio environments?
I like location but either will work from the educational stand point.

5. Number of Days?
If I am going to fly I would like to see at least two days of shooting with maybe a gathering at the end to show off everyones efforts. It's always fun to see what everyone got and have some get to know you time.

6. All inclusive pricing?
Yes

7. Guest Instructors who specialize in the field of the workshop theme?
Yes one of the most interesting for me, the more people that can show me what they know the better I get, it never stops even after 20 years.

8. Availability for personal instruction?
yes, one on one even if just for an hour is so helpful to get that kind of personalized advice and info

9. Weekday / Weekend schedule?
Weekday for me but just for personal reasons.

10. Availability to book private shoots with models before or after workshops with discounted studio rental rates?
Yes

11. Hard defined shooting structure or open encouragement of personal creativity?
Definitely a mix for me.

12. Price point per day?
That's a tough one. Many people don't value an education so they want to learn all on their own. I think this is something that will differ from shooter to shooter. I would pay in relationship to how many images I could realistically get out of the event for my collections. Once I understood that then I could give a very clear out of pocket expense.

13. Other?
That they move across the country like a traveling road show. That way I can wait till one comes closer and can save me travel money. Unless it's Hawaii then I am in no matter what : )

Hope this helps.

Best,
Jonathan

It definitely should be moved.  This is not general stock discussion

Really? I have 3 stock focused workshops coming up in the next 60 days and this information would be used to improve them and tailor them to the need and desires of this communities members.

Is this set of questions any less stock related then a demographic defining survey asking what is your day job? Had I said that the info was to improve my stock workshops rather then just workshops in general would the topic have been left where the general population of this community would have the best chance to see it like the demographic poll?

It's a set of questions that directly apply to your business.  The point being to help you plan things for your business.  Belongs in the business forum.

I have only done 1 workshop elsewhere so dont have a lot ot compare to, but my opinion :) (I take an educational context)

1. Ability to create unique content?
we already provide this in our glamour and beauty workshops

in an educational context, not hugely important, but definetly nice. in other workshop when it was my 'turn' i directed brought in props etc. Others then could continue with the same or do their thing (which they often did), personally i enjoyed seeing their ideas. There was no releases so no ongoing use so different context

2. Group Size?

max about 12 imo

3. Model to photographer ratios of 1:2 or better?

in other workshop we were 12 photogs, 1 model. It was geared lower I think, learning from each other, I actually didn't find it a problem at all. IMO if you dropped it to dropped to 1:3, 1:4  I wouldnt have an issue, but maybe thats just me :)

4. Multiple Locations or studio environments?

Both are attractive for different reasons. I could happily see a workshop solely of either or a day of each

5. Number of Days?

2 (although depends on how far travelling from)

6. All inclusive pricing?

yep

7. Guest Instructors who specialize in the field of the workshop theme?

nice but not essential if you are confident in the instructor

8. Availability for personal instruction?

depends on your won level of competence, after a 2 day workshop you feel that full of info that you want to ingest it may be wasted, or you may be full of more questions in which case it would be nice to have available.

9. Weekday / Weekend schedule?

weekend

10. Availability to book private shoots with models before or after workshops with discounted studio rental rates?

I could see the value of aftewards,  if you other stuff in mind from the workshop

11. Hard defined shooting structure or open encouragement of personal creativity?

mix

12. Price point per day?

well, I havent found anything that comes close to what you offer in Australia and think what you offer at current price is a bargain (hoiping to get to the States next year (and hopefully work will pay for it :) in which case I'll be on a workshop :))
