Hi all,

I don't bother cheacking my balance unless I am going to transfer money to my bank account, and I don't even bother reading the monthly statements they email me.

I was shocked however to see that I had U$92.70 on April 1st, 66.70 on May 1st, 40.98 on June 1st - without having done any transaction in these months!!

What are they charging me for? Is there some announcement I missed??

Hi Madelaide

I also have a Skrill account, but prefer to use PayPal. Have you checked you "history" report on the left of the summary page. That might shed some light on deductions. As far as I know there should not be any. Also, use the email support option and ask an explanation. They do normally respond within reasonable time.
Hope you get it sorted out!

I have just sent them a message. In the online summary, the deducted values are shown as "Merchant Service Fee".

I never knew I had a Merchant Service, is it automatic because I receive money from the agencies? My last transfer was from Fotolia last October, this fee was charged in April and May 2013.

In the Merchant Service fee page I read "Gateway Usage 19.95 per month" and this may be the roughly US$25 deducted each month.
https://www.moneybookers.com/ads/merchant-account/fees/

I don't use them in my website, that is what I understand the gateway fee would be about. I don't have ANY payment system in my website.

Such a high fee totally destroys Skrill usage to me. My microstock income these days is extremely low - I am not counting anymore, but possibly just around US$50. I would have to find a solution through Paypal, even though I know I would lose money.

I'll keep you posted.

I sounds like you have signed up for a merchants account, in stead of just a normal one. The merchant account will have various additional paid for services attached to it (which you clearly do not need). They have never deducted any such fees from me. I think you made a bad mistake when you signed up. Hopefully they will allow you to rectify it and (big wish) reimburse you the fees deducted (else it might be a costly mistake).

Hope you get it resolved.

It looks like if my account has been changed. I had it for years without such fees.

I haven't logged in for months, I believe, because I have not done any withdrawal since last year.

If it was your mistake you would have heard from them by now.

Their reply. I have then asked why my account is a Merchant Service. Could it be because I receive money only from the agencies?

As per your inquiry, we would like to kindly advise you that the Merchant Service fee is the inactivity fee charged in accordance to section 9.2 of our Merchant Terms and Conditions:

Quote
9.2 [] the Merchant will be charged a monthly inactivity fee of 19.95 EUR (or equivalent), if no funds have been uploaded, withdrawn, sent or received through the Merchant Account(s) within the last six (6) months. This shall however not apply to the extent that the Merchant is subject to the gateway usage fee as set-out on the merchant fees page.

Still think you have registered as merchant and not just for the e-wallet. Although I can not find a clear distinction in their product pages, look at the requirements to be listed as a merchant: https://www.moneybookers.com/ads/merchant-account/resources/
They further also mentioned that you have access with your Skrill Account to 130 000 merchants. I think the sites we contribute to are merchants, accepting payment from buyers into their accounts on large scale (displaying the Skrill logo on their websites) and making large scale payments to us.  You should probably only have a e-wallet account. Not 100% sure of this Madelaide, but it does look to me that way.

PS Look at the second guy's post here (confirming at least that there is more than one type of account and that there is a billing difference):

Yes, there are two types, and I am sure I would not ask for a Merchant one. The fees I paid were always the ones shown in the main Fees page (which has a link to the Merchant's Fee page).

Now I notice that the payouts received in Oct/2012 from IS/DT/FT - last time I requested payouts from the sites - were charged, but from FP, not. Previous payouts were not charged. Money received in a regular account would not have been charged. Thus my account has been changed to Merchant in 2012.

I wonder if they changed my account to Merchant because of the money received from the stock sites (only sites send me money there). From their TOS:
Quote
You are using your Skrill (Moneybookers) Account for commercial purposes if you are receiving payments for or in connection with any business activity. We reserve the right to determine whether, in our reasonable opinion, you are using your Skrill (Moneybookers) Account for commercial purposes.

But if you guys here, most moving a much larger sum, were not considered as commercial users, then I was very unlucky.  :-\

I can get rid of the inactivity charge (19.95 EUR) if I make any transaction. I will then ask for a payout from one site to solve that issue. However, I hope they agree to change my account back to the regular, non-Merchant one. But given the TOS, they may not.

As mentioned, I prefer Paypal and never had any problems with them. I heard that some sites do not want to work with Skrill at all due to various reasons (that is why so many sites does not offer them as payment option). But I know there are a lot of members here that do make use of them without complaints (as you mentioned, perhaps the lucky ones).

Just as general info Madelaide, I sent them the following questions after reading about your problem:
1. What type of account I have and
2. If there are any costs associated with the type of account.

Herewith their feedback:

"Thank you for contacting Skrill Customer Service.

We would like to advise you that you have a personal, non business, digital wallet account.

Also, be kindly informed that further to our 'Fees' schedule, which forms part of our Terms and Conditions, non-business accounts are charged a monthly service fee of 1.00 EUR (or equivalent). The fee is waived and thus the usage of the Skrill service is free if the customer has logged into the account or made a transaction in the last 12 months. Otherwise the service fee is deducted monthly from the account balance.

In other words, if you are actively using your Skrill account or have recently logged in to it, the service fee will not be charged. The 12 months of inactivity in question are counted from your last transaction or login."

Unlike Skrill, Paypal doesn't allow me to receive the money in a bank account I have in UK because I am not a UK resident - even if this is not a requirement to have a bank account there to begin with. Unless something has changed - I will check that wth a friend who uses PP - there are some high fees to transfer from PP to a credit card. Brazilian taxes and fees, not PP's, buy anyway it used to mean a good bite in the withdrawal.

So... my preference is Skrill. If I can not have the regular account, I will have to keep the activity not to pay those roughly US$25  monthly, and will have to check if there is some improvement in PP option to compensate the fees associated with Skrill.

They haven't yet replied me about my account having been changed to Merchant.

I had only but problems with PP , from the beginning starting with if your credit card is rejected for unknown reason u are unable to try to validate it again and when u try "add new card option" is all u get with multiple support explanations that don't explain nothing.

Can u please write us the list of those "so many sites that don't offer MB as paying option" u heard off ?

Looking  down from top tier sites Veer is first that comes to my mind as a low earner at 12. place but as i know ,generally, every decent site offers MB option so please do correct me if Im wrong

I did not only refer to stock sites but merchant sites (wholesale and many retail sites) I work with. Only 1 out of about every 20 allow Skrill and on inquiry from me at one stage a lot said they do not and will not use Skrill as they do not deem them as trustworthy. Not my opinion, I would not know the better, but theirs.

From Skrill:

Quote
Given the registered  transaction record on your Skrill account , it is considered  as of commercial use and in this respect subject to our standard business rates available here:
http://www.moneybookers.com/ads/merchant-account/fees/.
(...)
In this respect we confirm that the freelancers (web designers, developers, translators, photographers, etc) are also considered  commercial users.

So, I was the unlucky photographer withdrawing US$600 a year through them who got picked by their commercial use criteria. :(

9.2 [] the Merchant will be charged a monthly inactivity fee of 19.95 EUR (or equivalent), if no funds have been uploaded, withdrawn, sent or received through the Merchant Account(s) within the last six (6) months. This shall however not apply to the extent that the Merchant is subject to the gateway usage fee as set-out on the merchant fees page.

monthly inactivity fee 19.95 EUR + merchant account fee 4% + withdrawal transaction fee 20 EUR?
What is happening with Skrill?

20 euros of withdrawal fee? Geez, I haven't seen that. The inactivity fee is not an issue as long as you do some transaction within every six months.

In my case - to withdraw amount of 100 euros:
merchant account fee 4%  - 4 euros
withdrawal fee 2.95 euros per withdrawal - 2.95 euros
intermediary bank charge - 20 euros
total fees and commisions: 26.95 euros

net amount to my bank account: 73.05 euros  :'(
