First let me say please someone correct me if I'm wrong! This thread has been inspired by a few of the other threads lately about trends and the economy of microstock. Do you think that there has been an increase in the number of "solicitations" in the forums lately or is it just me? Are these just the normal ebb and flow or has the economic downturn been the underlying cause?  ???

Don't know about on this forum, but I can certainly say that my email junk filter has been working overtime lately with all the get rich quick scams of people trying to take advantage of desperate people.

Yes there is solicitation on MSG lately, for people to check their blogs, strangers wanting to help with a website or mysterious tool. Some people want to attract traffic for advertisement others want our log in information LOL

I guess desperate times calls for desperate meassures, but it's really getting out of hand on this forum, it's beginning to feel like the Craig's List of the microstock world, where every rip off artist wants a piece of us, offering one stupid service or another... >:(

For a small fee, I'll condense the useful posts into a daily email, with humorous photography tips sprinkled throughout.  Only $29.95 a year.  If you act now, I'll throw in my patented "Zen Reflector", a foil covered triangle hat you can use as a light bouncer as well.

I'm one of those who posted under "Blog Updates". I had no idea I was being so rude and disruptive.

i thought the best thing would be to kid around with them, or to ignore them. then again, either one seems not to work, as they are already beginning to  flood this forum. maybe we could get leaf to stop them coming , like the little signs you see at tims or mcdonalds , yknow?  NO SOLICITATIONS , esp  snake oil pedlars  ;D

Actually Batman, that's a pretty good idea.

Either that, or have a special "advertising forum" for people who want to post solicitations and people who want to read them.  That way they would not be cluttering up the other forums.

Agree that's a good idea. "Spam forum" keep it all in one place.  With most of us in the same line of work a used equipment forum would be great. It would be nice to buy/sell/trade with credible folks than taking chances with craigslist/ebay. Anyone interested in a large format printer??  :)

Don't throw stones its merely a test.

I don't consider blog updates as "solicitations".  Please don't stop.  Being unemployed and short of photo-inspiration, I enjoy good things to read!

MSG Guide for people representing a business:

1. Register an account in your own, full, real name.
2. Put the name of your company in your post signature.
3. Wait until your product or service comes up in discussion and then engage. Do not create a thread about your product or service yourself. Use of the word "shameless" does NOT negate this advice.
4. Be respectful, listen, and acknowledge each relevant post
(If your product or service doesn't come up in discussion organically, take out an advertisement - they're great value! ...and it may just cause someone to create a thread about your product or service)

;)

Those would be an excellent set of rules to follow, and it would stop the recent overflow of crazy services being offered on this forum, fair for everyone.

Best regards Lee.

On the other hand, more and more members are removing their refferal links.  ;) Is that a new trend?

I removed mine quickly after Milinz insulted my models/summer class students. I'm used to aggressive forum morons on other international forums, and the Balkanians are the worst, from all places I have been. I just have to protect my models and myself. Those guys can be very vindictive as I saw * a while from W Europe to Turkey after college. Ask Yuri who served in Kosovo. I have been around  :P - Links gone.

NO! You are a valued forum member. I enjoyed your blog, especially the airplane adventure pics. It's all 1000% relevant. Go on!

I would like an exception for regular forum members that start some new venture. I'm very much interested in the free reflectors that S.Locke offers.  ;D

Sean already took out an ad for his reflector hats. Take a look.

Amen to that , lisafx.
Well snakeoil salesmen and saleswomen,  you got the goods from us now.
you have been forewarned.  sure, we are mean mofos to each other, but when it comes to solicitations we are of one mind... and even meaner mofos .

ignore this thread, and we will just hijack your solicitation posting, like we did with the one that brought up this topic  8)
