Title: Yuri Arcurs Keywording Tool
Post by: WarrenPrice on May 02, 2009, 21:54
I just stumbled across this on Twitter ... post leading to Yuri Arcurs website.  It mentions Lucky Oliver so is probably an old tool?

Looks interesting.  Take it for a spin:

It is an old tool but sill very much functional, at least with the Shutterstock database. I use it for keywording of my images.

SS, LO or both. wich one u choose  ;)          Why not update it?

Ps. Am I wrong? was there an option earlier where you could choose both?  Itīs not anymore.

I remember that too.

I guess that some agencies didn't like to amount of traffic the tool sucked or didn't want to encourage "keyword theft" and "keyword spamming" or the idea that too many people use the same keywords over and over again. Who knows.

Then why didnīt they remove LO at the same time ?    Itīs so popular, why not work on it a little?

Don't ask me, ask Yuri.

Since he doesn't earn money with the tool, I do understand that he sets different priorities...  8)

Sorry, It was just a question out in the open air.    I am also grateful for this tool. I just think itīs a pity to not have it 100%.

I guess he easily could earn money on ads there. Must be thousand of hits every day..

I will have my programmer improve on it a little this summer. I promise. Remember. It is non-profit!
Server expenses are about 600 USD per year with the amount of user now using the service.

Thatīs good:)  Thanks !

I still think you could have ads there.  There are tons of foolish microstockers out there, clicking on everything ;)

I think a couple of ads on the page wouldn't hurt. It would help pay for itself and any improvements.

I used picniche keywording tool the other day and threw everything out but 2. I keep more of the keywords when I use Yuri's. It is more accurate.

I agree, the picniche tool needs a little work. The Yuri tool takes a little more time but yields better results.

Hi there -

Funny one the keywording tool. For those with English as a second language it's great. For those who are pushed for time - it's great. For anyone else, it's a good start, problem being you end up with the same keywords as everyone else if you rely totally on it.

I would suggest using the tool, but spending some time thinking about other keywords as well.

The way the keywords are arranged when you are finished is convenient for cut and paste, but beware if you upload them in the same order to sites like Fotolia where keyword order matters.

Just a thought

Old hand

I usually write about ten or more of my own keywords and then see what it suggests to fill in another 10-20

Hi!,
I've created this tool to assist myself in keywording. Just want to share it with you all.

Good stuff. I have used Yuri's tool for keywording for a while.  Tried the other tool http://www.findphotokeywords.com/ but this one seems to be easier to use.

Hey Karen & Travis

Just wondering if you could elaborate a little for me please on the picNiche keywording? :)
Were there not enough keywords, or were they inaccurate?
Did refining the query help or hinder your desired results?
Was it something else, UI, ordering, etc?

Any feedback is hugely appreciated :D

It's really slow (as my server is pretty awful for now :( but working on that too :)

Thanks

** Not sure where to put this response as it probably shouldn't be in this thread :/ if you feel it should be somewhere else Leaf please move it :) Thanks

Hey Bob,

I tried the picNiche keyword tool with the word "apple" and these were the results:

apple, fruit, green, health, diet, fruits, red, abstract, food, healthy, background, woman, vegetable, autumn, girl, color, christmas, isolated, orange, beauty, white, concept, apples, colorful, cornucopia, nature, water, art, vitamin, graphic, summer, sweet, nutrition, wallpaper, pop, city, fall, business, reflection, shape, pattern,

Of these results I feel only maybe ten are relevant to the image I had in my head. If I were to use Yuri's tool I could select a handful of images that were similar to mine and then easily select the images I want to use and have them all compiled in a comma separated list.

Hope this helps.

Ahhh, these are retrieved from the 'suggestions' list on picNiche.com and not from the toolbar keywording tool?

This is raw (un-processed) data, which is why the picNiche web functionality isn't really a keywording tool as it's mainly for research (though in theory a more descriptive phrase, and thus a higher rated niche produces a better list of potential keywords).
The toolbar keywording functionality is not only a more accurate list of associative data, but also allows refinement of the query across multiple terms.
I'll blog about this in detail as soon as I have the time :)

Thanks for the feedback :)

Oops, didnt see the keyword tool in the toolbar. My bad.

I tried out the toolbar and it works pretty well. I still feel like I have more control with Yuir's tool, but I will have to play around with this a little more.

Aye, mine isn't built to override Yuris, just another way of achieving a similarly useful result :) One of the things I'm trying to get out of the keyword-set however is a potential commercial value for that set to aid in keyword optimisation. (That's something I'm working on for picNiche)
I'll talk more about that elsewhere rather than hijacking Yuri's thread to go on about picNiche :)
