Hi!

This morning launched Stocksubmitter. It detected an update, took unusually long, it showed that it found 497 differences to update.

After the update I only get this error message.

Now this error appears even before the program would start downloading new updates.

It did. Thank you for the quick response!

There is another long ongoing issue, but it wasn't as bad so i didn't start a thread about it. It started some time in the first half of 2019, when there was an update for new version that had to be downloaded manually for the website. I think it was the time when the program became for Windows 7+ only.

Since then every time I close the program there's this error message two times. So two clicks to exit them.

Also there is bug in the user interface that many times makes me loose metadata. I will get back with the desription of this problem a bit later, I have to check out how to exactly reproduce it

Ok, the metadata loosing problem is more general and easy to reproduce than i thought.

Basically when I'm editing the metadata of a file and press Ctrl+F to make a search, the unsaved changes to the metadata get lost. It had caused me a lot a pain. Every time I forget to click on another thumbnail (looks like that saves changes automatically) before pressing Ctrl+F I loose the whole list of keywords i've just written, which can be several minutes of work

Since I also can't get updated, I was just going to ask you. Can I delete and start over and get a working version from a new download.

Is there any possible future for those of us who can't get the automatic updates to work, like downloading the update from your site? That would be really nice.

@Desintegrator

Thank you for the information, I will try to reproduce the issue.

As of those errors when you close the program - it seems to be an issue inside the .NET Core and apparently they still didn't fix it even with the latest 3.1 update. It's pure cosmetic though and can be ignored safely.

@Uncle Pete

What issues with the updates are you experiencing?
Make sure you launch the program using a link that points to SyncUpdaterCore.exe in the program folder and not to StockSubmitter.exe directly to ensure smooth updates.

Thanks
In the meanwhile a made a workaround for the issue. I used Autohotkey the set the combination Alt+Q (which is much more comfortable for left hand when my right hand is on the mouse) for a macro that first saves the data by sending a Ctrl+S input then opens the search.

Oh found it using explorer, SyncUpdaterCore.exe

Died at the same spot, connection error. Running from the program the auto update gets below.

I don't mind uninstall and re-install if that will do it?

@Uncle Pete

It seems something is blocking access for the updater to the update server.
So probably you could try looking for what does that and disabling it.

Yeah, back to that. The odd part is, it goes all the way to 651 of the 652 downloads and then the error.  :o

Thanks for looking, maybe some day I'll turn off things, one by one and see. I do have a new IP, so that wasn't it. I suppose it could be AVG or Windows 10 security, but the messages, don't seem to indicate that they are blocking your server. It says the finisher process was canceled by the user?

Used to say network error:

Quite mysterious.

The last file could be the executable itself, hence it is probably triggering their paranoia more than the rest of the files?

If it says that the finisher is blocked from running then that could be preventing the update from completing too.

Sounds right, it's always the last file which is the finisher. I'll try some more tomorrow morning. Thanks for the answers.

Would the browser make a difference? I use Firefox, but have Chrome and Edge installing and working.

Browser doesn't matter at all, the updater is a standalone app that doesn't use your browser in any way :)

By the way, it would be great to have the option to start Stocksubmitter without internet connection. Sometimes i go to an offline environment for a while to be more productive with editing, but even in those periods it would be useful to manage some of my keywords, or search my image library by metadata.

You can do that by launching App/StockSubmitter.exe from the program folder directly, logging in as a guest and refusing to update.
