I'm glad to publish first public alpha version of StockSubmitter 2.0

What is it?

It is completely re-written from scratch version of StockSubmitter software. All architecture flaws in first version were taken into account in the development.
It is very very early alpha release. It is not finished product and is not supposed to be used in actual workflow.

Why do I publish it then?

I want to test stability of installation, launch and running of program on different systems by different users, to find any critical bugs and technical problems. I want to fix 'em now, while program is not too complex and big.
So if you have some time, it would be good if you will download it, try to install and run and report any problems you notice to me.
Any ideas on functionality or interface are appreciated aswell.
Please note, what most of the functionality is not in the program yet, but it is planned.

What is working atm?

1. Navigating folders/files on your disks, reading metadata in EXIF/IPTC/XMP formats, filling the database with resulting information.
2. Editing metadata for files in database.
3. Auto-generation of previews for video files.
4. Submitting videos to Pond5, both pre-filled and with metadata filled on the fly during submit.

Key features of planned release version of StockSubmitter v2.0

1. SS v2.0 is cross-platform and has way better performance than SS v1.0
2. Using database to store all custom stocks metadata instead of using hidden fields in image files.
3. You can fill every custom field of every stock if you wish.
4. You don't need to upload files using program. You can upload using your favorite FTP software (FileZilla, etc.). StockSubmitter v2.0 will recognize such files and find matching files on the disk if you did explore folder containing them at least once.
5. You can submit even images without corresponding files on your disk, filling their data on the fly during submission process.
6. SS v2.0 is oriented on more advanced users overall, letting you have full control of submission process.

How do you get it?

Windows

You will need installed Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 and GTK# for .NET v2.12.9
Download mss2setup.exe, run it and follow instructions.

Mac OS X

You will need installed Mono v2.10.6 and ExifTool.
Download StockSubmitter2.dmg, open it and drag application to wherever you like.

Linux

Download StockSubmitter2.tgz, extract it and read README.

Hi! I've installed it on my pc, but after the install process the software won't start at all... there is nothing in the task manager after launching the program!

Here is my machine specs:
Laptop Sony Vaio S
Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit
i've installed "GTK# for .NET v2.12.9" and I've already got .NET Framework 4 (so I don't think I need to install the v2, right?)
CPU Intel i5 M540 2.53ghz
6gb RAM
Graphic card: Nvidia GeForce 310M

Stepunk

Thanks for testing the software :)
Mind writing me to Skype (landofrain) so we can discuss this issue further ? I think I'll need few more information.

It does already. However, as I mentioned above, it is still just alpha version, not supposed to use in workflow. But testing still is very very welcome :)

Hi!

Umm... today it is working!!! :D I just launched SS2.0, it downloaded some sort of update (or at least is what a popup message told me) and now it works just fine ;)

I can navigate my files, and it reads IPTC Title, Description and Keywords correctly lettim me edit them for each agency. It works with both JPG and EPS files.

I don't have any video to test the auto-preview thing.

Keep up the good work! ;)

Can't say too much about the interface, right now it's basically a file browser that reads metadata, but it's ok. Can't wait to see it with more features.

Just a couple of questions: are you planning to add some kind of auto-submitting to all the agencies listed? :) Do you have any idea about the release date (probably it's too soon for that...)

There is already pre-release submission functionality. Check Tools -> Submit menu.
It is designed kinda differently from SS1.0, so feel free to ask if you have questions.

Hi Niakris,

any news on the 2.0 of SS? At least the download links are not working any more.
Thanks!

Unfortunately SS 2.0 is cancelled.
We decided to keep with the updating and improving SS 1.0 since it already has many many features implemented.

Sorry, but the SS 2.0 project is long dead.

However, we're working on the Mac OS X version of SS right now.

The feature you're describing is possible to use already however it's not easy to use.
You need to move all the configuration (File -> Backup configuration, File -> Restore backup), all the releases and all the JPEGs to the computer you're going to be submitting images from and put them in the same exact paths as they were on the machine you were uploading it from.
Then the submission will work.

Hello, I'd like to know why StockSubmitter is adding a code to IPTC metadata of each file edited through it. The code is added in the field User Comment and has this form:

SSUCv3H4sIAAAAAAAEAJ2QzW7DIBCE75X6DhZnW3IghtBXiXrYAHVXdUwFOFUV+d3LnyXOvTHf7ACzz9eXriM38KjIW/dMKmpcls0HBwHtGvHYV240BusQlgQT27NDfICweePTFRUpCGaOswXW/PHOtejuMLIZE9EipG+Y326ZHWjv/50sh/ejCsxmVb/5w00RZxYDpci1jJKvn2Dcva32QG1so2HTaJuWD6tgSQHW3PztUOE6NzEbPo1rNxZXbu8NWG3IP6nFiI4rTfLETpRNlFExSikmwVgdQJ3sC1cCRjYOmp/5cL4oPsgP0INQnCk2SSMpjWvZ/wCQFoh8+wEAAA==

What is this, because cannot be decoded and how is used by StockSubmitter?

This is an encoded string containing all the non-standard metadata like categories, attaches releases, istock keyword terms, etc.

Hi all, I'm going nuts trying to find a vector eps size and settings that will be accepted by most main sites! (Shutterstock / iStock / Adobe / Dreamstime)
Keep getting "EPS file (XXMpx) less than XXMpx limit" or exceeded. or "ANY file resolution (XXMpx) exceeded XXMpx limit"

I have been enlarging, reducing page size, turning on and off options when saving eps...

Can't find something that works for all??? Is there a 'Goldilocks' solution for eps and jpeg??!!

Thanks, Barney

1200x1200 pt artboard, exported at 300 dpi results in a 5000x5000 pixels JPG image, or 25 MegaPixels. That should work for most sites.
