i found this page free images.com and if offers high quality images as roylalty free.some people take these images cause these are public domain and sell it in stock sites
i dont want to sell these images, but i wanna use them as backgrounds to my music for yt and tik tok

Royalty free doesn't mean "free to use". Royalty free  means once you purchased a licence you do not need to pay royalties or license fees for each use if you want to use the image multiple times.

Public domain is a different thing. For an image to become an public domain image the image must be older than 1964 and (!) the copyright owner must not have renewed copyright or, for newer images, the copyright owner dedicated the image to the public domain. In the case of the original Wizard of Oz movie, it seems to be a tricky case:

freesites are dangerous - just because they say images are free to use doesn't make it so.  better to use public domain images from the source - eg NY public library & NY metropolitan Museum both of which have enormous collections

Or you can get a friend and make pics for you or if you have some experience take them your self. Lots of options.  :)

So much this. A lot of these sites don't care what people upoad to them claiming to be public domain.

There was a website of a provider of vacation accommodation. This page was full of microstock photos. The company had bought the images but for what reason ever marked them as public domain images in the imprint. Name of the photographer@CC (creative commons). The page is obviously not accessible at the moment. I currently get an error message that the site is not secure. But I can make a screenshot from google search.

But what I want to say is: You can't always be sure that an image that is shown to you as public domain has ended up there legally or by mistake. I personally assume that this applies to a lot of images.

And lots of images on the free sites are stolen images so you have to investigate just to find the original copyright owner. Best to pay for a license to use the image you want.

If only all followed that process-- we would have some nice $$ in our pockets for our hard work  8)

To be honest:
If I were not somebody selling my photos on stocksites, I would not know the meaning of royal free!
If I would have to search for FREE photos as a customer - better consumer - without my knowledge background as stockphotographer, I would think royal free means FREE.

It is little bit similar to contracts: Who reads that small letters/text in contracts? So I am pretty sure that many many customers just take that royal free images and think they are really free to use. -Especially on FREE PIC and free images Sites. Their names already move the consumer in the wrong way of thinking!
I am also pretty sure, if the stockphoto industry would have taken another word for that royal free images, there would be much less using the images in a wrong way!
unlimited use price would be much better instead of royal free.
But nowadays everything has to be named something with FREE because all people are expecting things for free and search for free things.

Just for some further knowledge, Wizard of OZ the film, 1939 - there are no Public Domain images from that film for 95 years, which with any luck, we will see that in 2034. You can just remember the USA 95 years and if it's not that long, don't even bother with claims or what's free to use. After 1963 will be 120 years = 2083. Not something I'll ever see.

Or another easy way to figure it. 1926 or before, the copyright in the US has expired, even if renewed.
