After two years, I just canceled my MP account. My "Index" is was still under 85 since I don't have to time to play their silly Flickerish rating game. Some are over almost at 9,000. Sales don't count at all for the silly system at MP, as was denied by Arian before. I had three sales in the begin when the rating system didn't count that much, but for over a year, I had no sales at all. It's quite obvious you have to waste a lot of time commenting and rating to be successful there, and that's what brings you in front of the search engine. Sorry, I have better things to do.

Bye bye Mostphotos.

Ill wait for the delayed new release coming after the summer (as recently told by Micke in their forum) and see what happens.   Wont cost me anything to hang in there.

I have no idea what is my ranking there, I never checked it.  I must have about 50 images there.  Got one single sale recently.  The positive side is that this one singe sale already allows a payout, so I'm leaving my stuff there, but due to mine and other people's poor sales record, I haven't uploaded anything there in ages.

I left there last year. Really easy to delete your port on a whim with one click of a button! No regrets.  :)

No sales at all there... I saw some strange images sold but not a single one from my portfolio. So, I decided to try some other outlet for my illustrations and I did it!
Well, I left some microstock photos there... All illustrations deleted and moved to competiton... They sell more than MP and have better commisions ;-)

I left MP for close to a year, and just recently starting uploading there again, based on some information by their administration, that things had change, well so far everything still the same as it was a year ago, now I'm just waiting for the new release at the end of the summer, but if this new release does not drastically changes the whole format of the site and make some sales, I will delete my portfolio and close my account, this time for good.

I left there after their number one photographer went through my portfolio marking everything as a 1. Why this chap (called Haglunddaniel) wanted to hurt my sales so much I have no ides, i had never come across him before.
I decided then that ratings that were open to such vindictive acts were really flawed, and I will not upload any more. The site is a joke.

Yeah, this very same loser Haglunddaniel damaged about 200 of my pictures with his 1s or 2s in his attempt to keep his 1st place in the hall of fame. Then I blocked his pseudorating for my photos.

The same goes for me. I don't know how many photos I have in my portfolio, but I think less than 100. I don't know what my rating is, and I don't know if anybody ever rates my photos or even look at it. I check for sales about once in two month, and except for that I do nothing.

Flemish Dream. If MP doesn't cut it for you, what small or mid microstock sites do you use? Or do you stick t the bigger ones at this stage?

had 6 or 7 sales last year then all went quiet, was just looking at stopping when I had 3 sales in april and then 1 last month. So nothing amazing, certainly not enough to get me interested in working the site with the horrible ratings thing. I have about 50 images in the upload pile that have missing the keywords etc when uploaing and I wont take the time to fix and put through, but I'll persist a little longer for normal uploads because it is virtually no work.

For the first couple of months I was with MP I played their ratings game --- looking at others pix and rating them and thanking others for rating my pix.  But I never saw any sales so I stopped doing that.  I still upload, although I haven't been uploading much anywhere lately (need inspiration, can't think of what to shoot next).  We'll see what happens when the site upgrade and new search thingy comes online.

The guy is a joke  ???     Id never let an idiot like this make me leave if it was me though.   The rating-computer is supposed to take care un-logical votes like that, but it doesnt seem to work.   Ive had a few myself.     The sites been badly mismanaged from time to time, wich is sad. Just hope they dont blow their last chance :-[

never saw the point in this site. I've never heard anything good about sales there and it sounds like a lot of people behave like it's a school playground.
I think the only reason it got any interest to begin with is because a certain someone seemed to get their book promoted by them in exchange for some positive publicity.

edited cos I missed out the "never" before "heard"

You know what Perseus, thinking about it twice, you're right!...with my past experience there, I should have known better than to start uploading to MP again...I'm out of there.

It's difficult to get a site to listen to (you) . When you weigh the consequence of say, getting rid of the ridiculous rating and comments made by amateurs with  portfolio full of noise  the size of golfballs.
Who would Mostphoto prefer to lose, a handful of contributors including yourself? or busloads of amateurs?

Flemish Dream. If MP doesn't cut it for you, what small or mid microstock sites do you use? Or do you stick t the bigger ones at this stage?

When everybody had more or less the same rating on MP, I had sales twice per month. Then, the rating game started to play. A year or so ago, the site manager stated here that sales were important for the rating, and there was a mechanism in place to deter 1-2 raters that want to kill their competition. Both statement are blunt lies as I observed. Sold photos don't count for the rating at all, and they don't advance the photo itself. I had a "competitor" that gave me 1's and 2's in a row and I observed my rating not advancing for a while, whatever I did (logging in/out in their very slow site, "write your comment here", and things).

Sure, some people report regular sales on MP here, but their index is over 1,000. That means they must spend a lot of time commenting and rating. MP promised to get better for a year but nothing happened. A year with no sale is the limit for me, for any site. Keeping a site in your list is a burden timewise, and I want to limit myself now to sites that sell without having to socialize and comment.

"Midstock" has been a disaster. LO went down (and I made 8$ or so there), FP had to abandon its midstock concept, and Zymmetrical sells OK but not enough to spend much time on the cumbersome and flawed upload/submission system. Cutcaster sounded promising but after 3 sales in February, the site is dead for me. I don't know really of any midstock site that sells enough to pass payout level at least once per year for a moderate contributor like myself.

The only ones that meet that goal are DT and SS, and I'm thinking of putting my next batches exclusively at DT, and slowly cutting down on the rest. Now that the price competition started "for as low as 0.06$", I'm concentrating more and more again on assignement, like weddings. Those people don't complain about LCV and noise, and a D40 is enough.

Well, Flemish is not right in some part about FP.

It is true that FP is adopting just facts and they are that microstock photos goes to standard (microstock) category.
Mid-stock will be live and running much better than before due to clear term authors must accept - that is not to sell photos on microstock or to list them less expensive than they listed at FP...

So, mid-stock will have push on FP as well as microstock images (with making even prices) due to facts adopted and buyers not fooled anymore about similar images having prices in range from $1 up to $150...

We all would love FP to be THE most succesful agency. But its not.  We need to be realistic here.    Its impossible to reverse history and skip micro :-[

Well, I am just talking about fact adopting by FP... They are making 2 parallel markets on one place - like veer... They will have microstock images as well as mid-stock images...

Magnum, nothing about reversing history... It is more likely to accepting reality and trying to work the both ways!
