Title: My assesment of "Most Photos" after my first month.
Post by: rjmiz on April 16, 2008, 10:44
"Dark and Mysterious" -  Most photos caught my attention right from the start.

Stats:
354 images uploaded
1 download
$17.52 paid to my paypal account
Points: 265.5

Joining MP is like belonging to a photo club, rather than a stock site.
Contributing Members can, and WILL rate your images. They gain points for doing so. I have 265.5

"What do you do with the points?" "Are they worth money?" The points you earn are useless. They represent
your participation in this community of photograpgers and artists.

There are no reviews. You can't be turned away, and all that you upload is guaranteed to appear in your portfolio.
This is a haven for all the "Stockies" that constantly cry and complain about rejections on other sites. It's almost
as though MP is a stock site with "training wheels", so you don't fall and break your ego.

I had my first download on MP the very first day I uploaded. Since they pay in Euros this equated to something like $17 and change
into my PayPal account 4 days later. I was thrilled. The downside to this is my thrill was short lived. I have had not 1 DL since.

There are many talented photog's and artists on MP. You will find images there you will NEVER find on any other stock site.

I rate MP from 1 to 10 Ten being highest:
Earning potential 2
Ease of use 9
Ease of interface menus 10
Fun factor 10

It's a fun site to be on. You can rate other images, and gain personal points.
Chat with anyone on line. Get real time stats on your portfolio and images.

This site is NOT for the serious stock photographer. The site does not advertise or market their wares.
It's as much like the now defunct Lucky Oliver, (a novelty site)  only on steroids.

I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment. I'll even give the fun factor an 11.

I have about 900 images there, no downloads yet.  I'm hoping for at least one within the next few months.

Upload is SO easy.

Mostphotos is at least a great way to back up your entire stock photo collection online.  In the control panel there is an option to download all of your uploaded images in one large zip file.  OR, you can also download them one at a time.

Thanks for the appraisal, rjmiz.

I was considering joining MP, but if you're not selling there, I think I'll take a pass for now - perhaps things might look better in the fall.

I have almost 400 pics there sold one at the beginning and just found out that it is MP that actually bought it. So I don't really now, just wait to see if   this site will pickup or not....

I had my suspicions about this. Sounds like a good way to attract more photographers to the site. You and another vocal forum contributer both had sales almost immediately and then came here to let us all know about it.

I'll agree with MIZ (which is unusual for a start) and his summary of the site, I'm what you might describe as serious which is why I've knocked MP before, I have nothing against these 'fun photo club' type sites and if thats what people want to do fair enough, but does fun pay the bills and I don't just mean for contributors but for the people running the site, at the end of the day the site needs to make an income, not reviewing images means that there is a possiblity a buyer will buy an image from seeing the thumbnail which then turns out to be crap, and I think that would send buyers away.

Without buyers how long can a fun site survive, and as we all know from LO's downfall without marketing where are these buyers coming from in the first place.

It's the latest version of LO syndrome.  Not wasting my time...

Just a thought though, I'm not creative with names, but can't someone who's trying to come up with a stock site come up with a decent name.  "MOSTPHOTOS"?!  I'm boycotting because of the name  ;)

You're right.   I think SNAPPHOTOS would have done much better.   ;D

Sidebar: Check out what rinder says about MP (http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php/topic,3547.msg38130.html#msg38130). I guess this makes rjmiz the anti-rinder. (big grin)
