Magnum, I don't sneak around to give my opinion, since we all have one, maybe different than the other guy, but my opinion never the less, and is based on personal experiences, as I mention on this thread, I'm not trying to discourage anyone from uploading to MP, just letting my fellow photographers know, that in my opinion, uploading there is a complete waste of time...in my case I would not place my work there and wait for some changes to fall down from the sky...and Magnum it is my privilage to speak what is on my mind.

Best regards.

I love it, you hate it. Whos right?  I guess u never sold enything there? Ive sold a few. Its quite nice with 12.5  instead of 1$ here and 0,3$ there.

Thats my opinion!

Ps. 80 images is not that much if you wanna be competitive.

And I respect your opinion on the matter...also, after being and art director and a photographer for over 20 years, and a contributor to many sites for a very long time, 80 pictures are enough to give you the feel of the site itself...and the fact that I may or may not have sold anything there, is irrelevant to the topic at hand...I'm very glad you're happy there, Cheers.

As I remebered you had like me not very stock oriented images. Lots of nature and travelshots.   Thats not bigselling stuff no matter how many years youve been in this game.  Mmorell right?  How much do you sell/month at Istock?

You're correct on the part that some of the nature and travel pictures are not the best sellers on this market, and if I was to rely on what I make in iStock, is not enough to get inspired about...but you know what Magnum, between all the sites I contribute too and "PHOTOSHELTER" I make a living with my work, and at least on those sites I'm confident that the people rating my work, are professionals with strong criterias to follow, and not like it was in most cases on MP.
By the way you seem to know me and my work, I wish I could say the same, but obviously you're a spoke person for the site, and as I told you before, "I'm glad you like it there" Cheers!

Ps Keep in mind that, what I uploaded on MP does not reflect what I upload on other sites.

2 in 3 days...same image. They've still got a long way to go but when I make $40 in 2 days, it certainly gets my attention. The whole rating thing is still a shambles BUT, Arian's presence and accessibility in the forums and email is heartening.

I'll hang out for awhile...

After an absence from Stock and this forum, I had a look at my MP sales.
I had one in February, one in March (days after uploading), and odd one in May, then nothing any more.
My MP index is still under 50 (newbie).

My conclusion about the philosophy of the site is this:

- The MP index is utter crap. I got my sales when the site started and when almost everybody had a low MP index, so buyers could choose on based on quality rather than based on some Flickerish popularity rating by submitters.
- Sales obviously don't count for the MP index. My highest rated pictures contain none of my sales, except one near the bottom of the list.
- I noticed some contributors have an MP index in the thousands, so my guess is they are the kind of rating/commenting whores that populate Flickr and Multiply. Some comments I got was "write your comment here...". Yesyes.
- Since I preferred to do photography and not some chatbox-like game, my sales obviously halted.
- Most probably there are rating clubs and 'friends' clusters.
- As predicted, the way the MP index influences sales clearly is counterproductive and no substitute at all for real reviewers, at the contrary.

In a country where the daily wage is about 4$, I consider hiring a job student an hour per day to randomly comment ('great shot','perfect dof','unique viewpoint', etc..), randomly rate between 7 and 10, and log in and log a few times to boost my MP index. If that's what MP wants, it can get it. To survive in Rome, do like the Romans.

On the other hand, this conclusion/strategy might be invalid if everybody has a breakdown in sales since June... which doesn't predict much good for the future of the site.

Flemish is back!  Good stuff, I was worried that we lost you to a typhoon or a mudslide.  Aren't you in one of those coastal countries that has had some brutal natural weather that we see on CNN?  I hope you've been on a great adventure since we last saw you.

I had one sale back in April with 1363 images online...that's it.  My five referrals have eight sales among them.  The last one was on Sept. 11.

Experience? very few Images and a Month? Please My friend gain some real experience and then post. MP is trying the best they can do do the best job they can with or without your limited help. Put up 2/3000 images then talk about what you've done.I've been at this a lot longer than you .......I must say without a doubt. Selling anything to anyone is about what your selling. Im so sick and tired of whiners saying there work doesn't sell.   well Do better selling work. Simple as that.

If only your post had anything to do with what magnum and I where talking about a while back rinderart, I would take the time to answer your comment...but I'll give you a clue, it was not about sales!!!...now maybe next time my "friend" your comments are not irrelevant to the conversation.
