Title: 500px need advice
Post by: Piens on July 05, 2016, 02:55
For past half year got banned there twice for "spam" then with angry email spam for support, getting unbanned. This happens due many image submission and people reporting it for spam. I dont understand the stupid policy of this stock. They look for contributors for their marketplace, to sell RF images, however ban them for uploading too much.

Any ideas ?

I thought everyone stopped uploading to 500px after royalty cut. It's good to hear that 500px bans people who still upload there.  ;)

They earn from lawsuits. Basically, they make it easy for pirates to steal images then sue 'em later.

So 500px doesn't want the low end 'spam' portfolios, and they obviously don't want the high end either, because they just whacked commissions.  Like Sears, they don't know who they are anymore.  I don't expect them to last.

Banned for what? What is spam to 500px? Too many same images. similar? How can we upload spam if they accept it? Example of what got you banned.

but why? I saw A LOT of posts and discussions about how "bad" 500px is, but i only can see whining and crying without any proper explanation. They sell bad (low) but sometimes they still do sell, and from time to time, i get some sells there, which result in some money. whats the issue ?

The issue is, they collect money from PLUS and AWESOME (or whatever is called) accounts, and yet, they still cut commission from 70% to 30%.

You are exactly the photographer they want.

Why would you ask people you characterize as whining and crying for their opinions? You clearly don't think much of us/them/whoever you're criticizing...

so true,
500px suffers from schizophrenia...
it cannot decide if they are
a) a stock photo site
where contributors earn money from dls of their work
b) a social media site
where everyone sends you a message and thuimbs up.. (like fb,etc cough)
with the attachment "come see my port".
ie ppl who just want a lot of poke, nudge or whatever , so they can
tell their friends they had 2000 pokes and thumbs up for their amazing SNAPSHOTS

me??? i will wait till 500px decide what it wants to be.
as for now, they make money by traffic

My understanding a while ago is that they implemented in their upload an algorithm that prevents images after the third in the upload from being displayed in "fresh" . Remember that 500px did not use to be a stock agency in the beginning and that it is full with people who want to expose their work to each other. When you upload too many and they are displayed in the fresh pages you prevent others from having their work seen and voted.

I am not in agreement or disagreement with 500px or the contributors, I don't care, I am just trying to explain.
