Did anybody have recent sales at 500px?

I used to have one or two sales per month until February but not a single one after that...

This is also my observation.

500px performed very well for me, for at least half a year, until February, indeed.
After that, I had only one large sale in March, only two small sales in April, nothing in May, so far.

Is this related to that commission cut and strategy "revamping", in some shape or form, or just a coincidence?

500px has been losing traffic since the commission cut in March.

It could also be the negativity surrounding the commission cut. It was all over the news and many buyers were aware of it and stopped buying from them.

500PX is a community. Many of the buyers were contributors and vise versa.

Anyway, nice to hear, buyers dumped them.

It would be nice to find out that their totally graceless slashing of commissions actually backfired on them.    I'm one of those who immediately closed my account.

I sold my very first photo today and it was the first photo I have uploaded. I am over the moon. It was bought in XL and I got 0.25 for it. I have only 4 images on that website at the moment. I still can't believe I sold a photo. Just had to share that with you.

I recently had two sales totaling about $100 commission. I only have images there now that I also sell on microstock, so not too bad.

Hi ShadySue, sorry I only just saw your question. Well, I am still a happy bunny but when I went to a photo shop today I had to get it off my chest how much money  I got paid for my now 2 sold photos. I can't even buy a cup of coffee for it. At least it will pay for a couple can of cat food. :-)
I do feel much more appreciated on my award winning survey website.

Nope, also because I deleted all my photos. I had uploaded more there than most places due to the nice Lightroom plugin.

There's still an opportunity for someone new to come in to this market and do it right.   Some new mix of inspection, curation, social interaction, control over price, keyword search, a modern looking gallery presentation,  and promotional tie-ins.  Oh and maybe a bit of up-front honesty and respect for contributors.  We've seen plenty of sites that have some items from that list but not enough of them.  FAA, Crated, 500px, SmugMug, RedBubble, on and on - not one of them has it all together.   There's a market for wall art photos and serious photographers are willing to pay a few bucks to the site that finally gets it all together.

Sorry, my comment was before you said your 25c was on Fotolia. I had assumed it was a 25c from 500px, and didn't think anyone would be happy at that.

Still, good you live somewhere with cheap cat food!

It's kinda funny that 30% of their traffic comes from the word "nude". Their community were also their buyers, which they p*ssed off after the commission cut.

Hi Everybody,

Does anybody license "main stream concept" stock photos on 500px?

By "main stream" I am referring to popular concepts like:  Business meetings, interactions, teamwork, home lifestyle, etc.

If so, any luck?  If not, why not?

Thanks!  -m

I take back what I said about their traffic dropping. It was dropping when I originally made the post, but their traffic has been rising quite a bit lately.

And based on their recent marketing and advertising, they're really pushing hard as a stock photo website instead a community. They're positioning themselves as a macro site, with much cheaper prices than Getty and more expensive than micros.

Their commission cut really sucks, but it hasn't slowed down contributors from uploading.
