Who gets you more sales, Canstock or Crestock.

Please only vote if you have a significant number of images on both sites.

I voted Crestock, but the difference is so small (a couple of percent only), that it's hardly noticeable. Crestock seems to be growing though, but subscription prices are too low.

Another agency with more or less the same earnings for me is Scanstockphoto. They are  5-10% ahead of Crestock, but my portfolio there is at least three times as big.

I've earned more in CanStockPhoto, but I won't vote because I have in CanStockPhoto maybe 4x the number of images I have in CS, so I don't think the comparison is fair.  In $ per total images, the earnings are similar - all low.

I contribute to Crestock, which I've found to be a waste of time. Despite the fact that I've been profiled on their blog, have had 4 images as 'Today's Best Image', as well as 4 images in their free wallpaper promotion, I've only managed to sell $41 in just over 1 year. I can make more than this in one day on SS and IS.

I abandoned them long ago, but recently resumed uploading again in hopes of eventually getting $100 from them. Unless you already have stuff with them, you'd do better to put time in on improving sales on higher yielding sites.

I've got only US$11 after one year there (ok, just 60 images), but selling almost only at subscription price doesn't invite me to upload more.

Crestock has been an excercise in frustration. Everything they reject sells well on big 6. CS has done well up until 2 mos. ago, slowed drastically, but shows signs of life in the last week.

After a few months i deleted my portfolio from both of them...
My images selling well in IS, SS, DT, BS, 123, FT (fotolia before v2), but no sales at all in these two...

I just signed up last week... haven't uploaded anything yet....
Sharply_done... your opinion is valued!
I'm  on IS, SS, StockXpert, DT, BigStock, NLS, FT, LO, 123rf, FP, & Alamy...
Making hardly any money on 123rf, LO and FP - payouts will be decades in the future, my greatgrand kids will cash 'em in!  I'm thinking about picking up more.  What/who would you suggest?

Thanks!   8)-tom

aka-Tom, does that mean you are making money at all of the rest? I ask because I see NLS in there. Are you making money there?

Sorry, sbonk,  good point.  No, not making a thing at NLS yet,  but there I'm not expecting to anytime soon.  I'm willing to hang in there for some time (up to a year) and give Darrel a chance to build it up.  I hope it takes off as a good portion of my stuff is nature and landscape (national parks, etc)

Alamy, just got accepted, so no there as well. There it will be a slow build  as I only want to upload  material that I don't have on the micros. I'm sure a customer would be ticked to buy a pic there and then see it later on SS  for a quarter!

The rest?   Yeah,  I'm happy with the sales,  especially IS.

Someone who owns a small macrostock agency who is now starting to put some of his portfolio (tens of thousands) on microstock agencies told me, "you're in the business of selling photos, so sell them wherever you can".

I can't argue with his logic.  Plus:

Alamy buyers are paying for the Alamy screening process and the bragging rights to say they buy only macrostock. Any buyer who's upset to pay Alamy prices for an image also available at Shutterstock would likely be checking Shutterstock first. Those who don't care, don't check.

Rather than "a quarter" the image will cost said buyer $214 (or whatever subscription they buy).

You've got a point, Lee!   I know guys who sit around and argue who paid the most for the same tie and are proud of paying more.  Go figure!.

Just checking. I have a small amount of photos on NLS and thought maybe I should get the rest of my nature photos there too if others were getting sales.

Someone once told me that it was my job to get my photos exposed to buyers in as many ways possible. He said I don't set the prices (at some sites you do now) at the sites so I should upload to all of them no matter what they set the prices at. I do not upload to Alamy but maybe I will try them.

I can't really see the logic in having the same image at Alamy as well as microstock. If you believe that someone is willing to pay $200 for an image, why give him the opportunity to buy it for $5?

I am sure some people do check the micros for the same image before buying it with alamy.  How many times are you loosing $200 by having the same photos with micro sites?  There is no way on knowing if a buyer has thought of paying $200 and then found the same image on a micro.

They can also buy the photo with alamy and check the micros at a later date and ask for a refund if they find the same image.  Just look at the forums, people have had refunds a long time after a sale.

You might loose more than the $200 on that one sale.  The buyer is not likely to buy from your alamy portfolio again and if they work for a big company they might warn other potential buyers.

That's kind of my point. I'm already on micros, so what do I have to lose by putting my portfolio on Alamy?

If an Alamy buyer realises my images are also on micros and boycots my portfolio, even if he tells all his friends, I've still lost nothing. If Alamy earnings cover the time to upsize and upload, then I'm in front.

It goes back to getting your photos sold, regardless of the channel.

hi,

canstock does better for me but not by a lot and they have 1300 images whereas crestock has 850 and I was featured photographer for about 3 weeks, so its not really a fair comparison.

a.k.a.-tom,

What is NLS ... Could you send me a referral link? I am very much interested thanks to your post ...
