I just received 2 iSyndica emails at my very specific Fotomind email addresses.  Why would iSyndica be emailing me at email addresses used only for Fotomind?

I do the same thing. I use one domain name email account as a "dump all" with a prefix based on the site I am emailing. I received an email today from the Chrysler/Jeep site using the prefix "Sirius". It was the email account I set up with sirius radio 3 years ago. It tells me where the spam is coming from and who to block. Rat B's!

I was also irked today when I received an e-mail from Isyndica.  I wondered how they got it, it is an address I use strictly for stock agencies so I assumed they bought a list from one agencies.

The address they used for me was only at Fotomind, so I was/am pretty steamed about that.  They close the door and sell our info.

well I can say it's not just fotomind because I got one today too and I couldn't tell you what the fotomind site looks like let alone have given them my email ... of course they could have bought it from somebody else and then resold it LOL

Well - I am being regularly encouraged to:

a) get a fake rolex watch
b) get my penis enlarged
c) buy shares in a gold mine
d) send my bank account number somewhere because someone wishes to send me money blah blah blah...
e) some other stuff I can't remember

All goes to the bin right away (well, I am kind of pondering over b) and d) )
 ;D

I used to get a ton of junk email through one of my hotmail accounts, now I rarely get any. Microsoft must have finally got their act together with spam blocking.

I'm not registered at Fotomind so I don't think it's them, unless Fotomind is affiliated with another agency.

From the Fotomind terms of use agreement that people acknowledged when they signed up.

Privacy Policy

Fotomind will never share your personal information with any third party.

Did they?  >:(

Without a doubt!  That is why I was steaming.  The email addresses were ONLY used at fotomind.com.  I make my addresses something like this: [email protected]

I do this to see who is breaking their own terms (and to filter my email).  It's happened before on other sites.  Unless iSyndica hacked their DB, they sold us out.  I wonder to who else?

I got the spam from Syndica too on my email only used for sites. I marked them as "spam" to Yahoo, and my personal rule is never to buy from or even look at spammers. They have an unsubscribe link but I want to be paid for the 2 minutes it takes me steaming and unsubscribe, so I just mark them as "spam". If enough people do it, it comes in the spam database of Yahoo and it automatically goes in the spam folder for everybody. Not sure of course if it's from FM, but that email was spam-free till 2 weeks ago.

Hi everyone,

To make things clear, here is our privacy policy page: newbielink:http://www.fotomind.com/index.php?module=text&act=privacy [nonactive]
The most important part being:
Quote
"Fotomind will never share your personal information with any third party. Fotomind reserves the right to disclose your personal information if required to do so by law, or in the good faith belief that such action is reasonably necessary to comply with legal process, respond to claims, or protect the rights, property or safety of our company, employees, customers, or the public."

Fotomind will be closing on 15th and as the closing notification states, all contributor photos (customer -contributor- property) will be permanently removed. In order to protect this property we have decided that it's necessary to offer our contributors a way to keep their portfolio. By partnering with iSyndica, we will offer this possibility directly from the fotomind web page.

Since 2007 anyone registered with us has not received any spam emails.

While some of the photographers here don't really care about their portfolio (or time taken to upload it), there are many contributors on our site that aren't very happy to see their photos permanently removed on 15th. Unlike other stock photo sites that have closed, we don't want photographers to consider uploading images to our site a waste of time. Since we have partnered with iSyndica for this, we have shared our contributor usernames in order to prepare the transition and notify all our contributors about this opportunity. No passwords, addresses, phone numbers, etc have been transmitted.

If anyone has any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you

If you ever do another venture in the future... I would suggest rather than sharing info with someone like iSyndica (whom I love, BTW), you should instead send emails directly yourself first with a paragraph stating that the email is from you and second making the offer for artists to save their portfolio on iSyndica rather than losing it.

Fotomind shared personal information the email addresses and usernames.

Thank you for the suggestion. However there won't be any other venture in the future, since this is the path we have chosen to help protect our contributor portfolios.

Fotomind admits that they broke the contract.

Please read our previous post entirely to help you understand why we didn't broke the contract terms. Skipping most of the post and citing parts of the text that seem convenient to you doesn't help.

That was exactly my conclusion too, after I read the newspeak post.

Hey guys,

We should probably have made an appearance on this thread sooner, or even boasted about it, only, see, we're not really "just" out to get something for ourselves and the usual tendency is to take any company post as self-serving marketing spam.  Thus our silence so far on the matter.

What happened with Fotomind?  "Selling" your e-mail address I feel is a bit of a strong statement.  The truth of things is that Fotomind had thousands of photographers - me personally among them - with portfolios that would disappear and commission balances left unpaid.  We just felt it was sad and, while Fotomind's position on the matter was clearly understandable, not exactly right.

So we talked with them and offered to "take the debt" on unpaid commissions and provide the convenience to their contributors to transfer their portfolio to iSyndica where they could dispatch it to over 50 other agencies currently available on our network.

We felt, as Fotomind did, that making this offer was far from inappropriate and shared the work of making this happen.  In retrospect it would probably have been better indeed if Fotomind had sent that e-mail themselves.  Lesson learned.  Apologies if you felt abused, that was certainly not the intention.

Here is the bottom-line:
 - This was a contextual mailing only: your email addresses have not been added to our mailing list (and I do the same thing as you: use a different e-mail address for everything I sign up for, so I'm quite sensitive to the matter as well)
 - IF - and only IF - you do care for it, you can contact Fotomind before Monday is out and ask them to transfer your portfolio and credit balance.  You don't have to sign up for a paid account and can use our free plan or trial to test us out - marketing pitch warning: and yes, if you haven't tried us out yet, maybe you should; we have thousands of users who have seen their earnings significantly increase by getting an easier ability to distribute through our network, some of them by orders of magnitude.  Hey, don't take our word for it: ask around, that's all I can say.
 - IF you do transfer your portfolio and have a balance, it will be available to you as CASH on your affiliate account, and then in minutes you can sync up your transferred portfolio to other agencies you haven't tried yet, or agencies where you might not have sent those items.

I hope that helps clarify the situation and apologize the reception of this offer was perceived differently than intended.

We are currently in the process of transferring hundreds of accounts and are happy to help some of our existing users recover their commissions through this "debt transfer" and welcome new users on our platform.  We expect the transfer to be completed by Tuesday this week.  For existing users, all imported images will be labeled with "Fotomind" and marked as "Approved" in your syndication roaster (though the Fotomind channel will eventually be removed later in the week - reporting will still remain available).

Thank you for your attention.

Best Regards,

SC - iSyndica
