I got this email today:

oh yes, they are really NEW :-) About 1000 images and 0 dwl in database. Located in South Africa.
I see there nothing special for me why to start uploading there.

OK, I did a few searches and didn't find anything out of line, except the search engine itself. A search for construction worker yielded an American flag on a pole. Just that one photo. When I clicked on the Education category of the cover flow images, it yielded 9 photos of sharks.

Maybe they are still working on the site.

fstockphotos...I guess the f could stand for ****, but maybe it means like fstop, fstock...oh well, who knows.

edit: I did see some nice images there.

Yes, we are new, and thus, have categories that do not have as many images in them as we would like.

The lonely flag has been sorted! Sometimes one just passes under the radar. Thank you for pointing it out.

The sharks are used for educational purposes, and that's why they are there.

I would like to know why and how it is that we are " not worth it". Please let me know, so that, if possible, I can change what is wrong.

If you want some free advice, get your keywording sorted out right now, before you have so many images online that it becomes just about impossible. E.g, a search on 'elephant' has a photo of two zebras and no elephant and an image from Cambodia (where there might be elephants tiny in the image, but I couldn't zoom in to ascertain).

Also, what do you see as your USP, compared to e.g. iStock or Shutterstock, which would make buyers want to take up with you when they can have a much bigger choice of images elsewhere? It looks like your images are 'fixed' but 'variable' price, i.e. each image is priced differently, but you don't seem able to buy smaller images cheaper. I didn't sign up; maybe that info is explained, but I also know I'm not the only one who visits a site several times before even signing up, unless I've had really good personal recommendation.

Good luck; I think that competition might keep the Top Tier 'honest', but youve got a hard, uphill task, and a lot of outlay on advertising.

What´s wrong with you? Probably nothing. We´re just having a hard time believing that anyone these days can be successful with a new site. When even well known " On the list" sites have hard times. There´s simply no more to get out of this for us.

ps. F***stock is not a good name...

you've gotten past step 1 - asking for and accepting criticism - many new agencies never make it that far. but as oters have said, it's not you so much as the numerous other wunderkind who never take off

you say tho " We offer better visibility to your work" - better than what? how? and more important, can you produce sales from these better views?

focus on sales [and a good affiliate program] and you'll start to get recommendations from sellers to other sellers. from there it's up to you

I'm looking... let me read the fine print. But like many have already said... most of us are a little gun shy about new agencies... they're getting like nachos. One disappears and another pops up top replace it, but, for how long. Many have spent considerable time uploading ports... only to see the "plane" go down in flames.

Dominique, I wish you success!!! And, I will be watching. I do want to expand, maybe it will be with you? We'll see.

I went to have a look, and it sure does look like Yuri Arcurs' work. Im not about to blow anyone's horn (unless I get paid to do it). Just wondering if Yuri signed up, then they cant be that bad?!

Well at least they win first prize for the most irrelavent search results: (despite people pointing it out over two months ago on this thread)

Enter 'Man' into the search box and the resulting first page of 30 images feature 25 images without a man in them! Same thing for many other search results.

I'm also guessing you can set your own prices, at least on one page of results the images ranged from $300 to $10, something that hasn't proved successful in the past on other sites.

Personally I can't see this South African based agency lasting more than a year but Yuri has uploaded his stuff so no doubt many others will too

Keywords are screwy.

Business: a fish market, a pretty girl in tall grass
Elephant: still seeing a two zebra with no elephant image
Education: architects, groups a older people (maybe students, maybe drop-outs, IDK)

Pass.

It was logic like that (although not Yuri in particular) that led me to contribute to Albumo and what a total rhymes-with-fluster-duck that was. And I gather some others signed up with Crestock because of Yuri's endorsement. That hasn't exactly funded the vacation in Tahiti as far as I can gather.

People starting new sites need to talk about their marketing strategy and probably need to offer (a) completely pain free uploading and (b) some sort of upload incentive without a lock in. Why else would anyone spend the time?

If I were still independent, I think my only other must-have would be the ability to delete my own files. Perhaps not everyone realizes that some sites don't let you do that. Even after whatever time commitments have expired.

True... if they were referring to f-stops then a small f should have been used. Capital F does stand for Force in physics though. So maybe there's a bit of Star Wars in them.

funny the preconceptions from a name. I read the name and am expecting something real modern, cool, artsy, a bit 'out-there', pics of people jumping in front of grunge wall with electric guitar and shot with a ringflash

but it looks like just a another site (cluttered and I find it all just distracting) with ads for south african accomodation on the front image rotation??
